Get the Look

  • Begin as always by priming your eyes with a good primer. Here we used Stila Prime Pot in the color Carmel. Other good primers include Palladio Eyeshadow Primer, Urban Decay Primer Potion and Too Faced Shadow Insurance. If you don’t have a primer a good concealer will work as well.
  • Begin with a flat, stiff brush like the Makeup Geek Flat Eye Shader Brush and begin placing the color Gold Digger to the inner ½ of the eye.
  • Using the tip of the same brush, apply the color Gold Digger under the inner ½ of the lower lashline to help the eyes pop.
  • Wipe off the same brush really well, and apply the color Mango Tango to the outer ½ of the eye where the Gold Digger left off making sure to pat gently over the line created with the Gold Digger to blend it out.
  • Now with the Makeup Geek Small Crease Brush, place the color Chickadee into the crease and rock it back and forth using windshield wiper motions. Make sure you blend out any harsh lines from the previous colors.
  • Again, wipe off that brush really well and go in with a color close to your skin tone. Here we used our newest shade Beaches and Cream. Use this color under the brow bone right above where you place the Chickadee and blend out.
  • This step is optional depending on how your want your eyes to look. To add a pop of highlight to the eyes, go in with the shade Bling and with the Flat Eye Brush, place the color under the highest point of the arch buffing the color slightly so it doesn’t appear harsh. Also place this color in the inner corner of the eye not covering up the Gold Digger.  If you want, you can use a more pointed brush for this to get into the corner of the eye.
  • If you want to intensify the look, add a small amount of the color Razzleberry to the outer v portion of the eye.
  • With a small eyeliner brush, apply a matte brown shade to the outer ½ of the eye and slightly wing it on the end.
  • Again, this step is completely optional. To help open the eyes and give them the appearance of well rested and help them look more open, use a nude liner to line to the waterline of your eye.
  • Curl your lashes and apply your favorite mascara for a complete, polished look.
  • To clean up any fall out, or help conceal any under eye problems, use a concealer and place gently under the eyes, use a fluffy brush like the Makeup Geek’s Soft Dome Brush, and gently sweep the concealer under the eyes.
  • With the same fluffy dome brush, pick up the smallest amount of powder you can and brush it gently over the concealer to help set it.

  • Using a bronzer of your choice, we used Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in the color Original Chocolate and a contour brush; apply the bronzer directly under the cheekbones.
  • With a small stippling brush like the Makeup Forever 20S, or a blush brush of your choice, take the eyeshadow Mango Tango and place it on the back of your cheeks blending it into the bronzer.
  • With a small concealer brush, take a highlighter of your choice, we used Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer #2 and place it right above where you placed the Mango Tango on your cheeks. Use a patting motion to blend the highlighter onto the cheeks and feather out slightly.

  • Use a nice medium pink shade to fill in the lips. We are using our new Makeup Geek Lipstick in Delightful.
  • Apply a layer of NYX lipgloss in Nude Pink or any soft shade of pink you have will work nicely.
  • And there you have it, a nice fun, fresh look for summer without being to dramatic. With just a few tools and shades you can create a stunning summer look in no time.  Summer is for fun so make sure your makeup is as fun and playful as you are!

Geez, I missed your tutorials! You were the first person I started watching on YouTube and still by far my favorite! Keep up the amazing work! :)

I love that video it was a really good one I used it and the colors worked really well and I just love it so much thank you

Hi Marlena,

I really would like to know the kind of bra you use…for curve girls…pls

I used to wear the Lane Bryant ones, but I currently wear Victoria’s Secret (to be honest, they’re not my favs though) I’m still on the hunt for curvy girl bras- it’s hard finding ones that fit the ladies ;) haha

I highly recommend Freya’s or Fantasie’s bras for curvy girls. Those are the only ones I buy. Their quality is amazing and they give GREAT support. I personally prefer Freya’s since they have lots of fun colors and prints. You can get them at or both are UK sites but they deliver worldwide and have a very very good customer service.
Hope it helps!

I am from Canada and order from Bravissimo all the time. I love Freya bras. I get the “Deco” style bra. I think I have it in every color. Their sizing is amazing for curvy girls. You should have a look :-)

simple beautiful(: and um i was wondering if you could do a look with dark skin girls plz?

PLEASE tell me you will be making a KIT for this look!! When will it be available?? Thanks!

Marlena, I am so glad you are back with your tutorials. (BTW my husband was glad that you didn’t post for a while because that safes him money … lol) They are just awesome and so easy to follow. I started using makeup a little over a year ago (and I am in my late twenties) with your help. I get compliments all the time and people ask me to help them do their makeup. Then I just send them to your website.
This will be a fun look for this weekend! Thank you!

welcome back Marlena :)
loved your tutorial this look is really nice for summer and you look gorgeous as always :)
I know your busy but plz i need to contact you about your makeup geek product ;)
Thanks alot and have a gorgeous day

Really fun and beautiful. I ordered two MUG lipsticks, and can’t wait to try them. Delightful looks lovely on you.
BTW, could you please develop a good clear lip liner? I have deep wrinkles radiating from my lips, and all lip products feather into them. That can really make you look like a mean old lady really fast! So I need something to keep the lipstick on the lips.

Good product idea!! I’m not sure when we can get that going- probably early next year as it takes quite a bit of time and moola to get good products produced, but I have it on my to do list :)

oh one more question the Armani fluid sheer #2 is it good for all type of skin or should i buy different shade if im darker , is it like white sheer ?
thanks :)

I would see if they have a more golden color, but if not, this should work ok as its pretty sheer. It just adds a sheen to the skin :)

Hey Marlena,

I know this video didn’t really talk about it but I would love to know if you know of an alternative for the MAC Fix + spray that is from a drug store or at Ulta.

Thanks :-)

I think I can answer that question. I know that urban decay has several sprays and Ulta has them. I tried the de-slick and setting spray on a whim and I was oil free all day. My make up didn’t melt off or slide anywhere. I dont know about the drug store brands. I’ve not seen something similar yet. Hard Candy may have something along that line. They have a lot of things the other brands don’t have. Good luck :)

I haven’t found a cheaper one yet… I tried a couple others, but I didn’ t like them as much :( MUG is going to have one hopefully next year!

Hi Marlena!
Welcome back! i love this tutorial, it’s very fresh for summer, I try this look for tomorrow^^
Kisses from France!

Welcome Back! I’ve missed your tutorials. They are by far my favorite…like the other girl said they’re one of the first ones i started to watch and I still come back to you :)
You keep looking better and better girlfriend…what’s your secret!:)

Thanks SO much for such a sweet comment :) I think I take time every day to do something for myself- a walk, play with makeup, watch a TV show- it makes me happy and less stressed :)

Marlena, we missed you! I LOVE this look! I’m gonna try to get some of the colors and try it out. I had to share this with you and the makeup geek community: my most recent homework assignment was to evaluate a web page for its graphic content and how it enhances or distracts from the message. I chose to evaluate. Here is what I wrote about it:

I chose to evaluate This is my favorite make-up artist’s personal web page. From watching her tutorials online and practicing what she has taught over the years I have come to respect her. Her goal is to simply be the best as she can be, and she teaches others how to achieve different looks. Her message to everyone is to be “happy and healthy.”. She conveys that message through her image, personal web site, and her company’s web site. On her personal web page, she uses a gray scale with various words in pink. She shares everything from her weight loss journey, to her travels to various locations. the graphics are simple and reflect her goal. The articles she has about her most recent trip to Paris are positive and uplifting. It is clear she and the group she traveled with had a wonderful time there while Marlena learned new techniques to share with the community.

I like this web page, not only because she is my favorite guru, but because it is not too busy. Navigating the page is easy, and the color choices are aesthetically pleasing.

1st, your eyelashes look amazing! All wild & spindly, but knockout natural, This could be a trend! 2nd, WELCOME BACK TO TUTORIAL LAND, we missed u. 3RD, the tattoos, I am happy for you. It clearly marks a very high point in your life and for those of us who have seen your energy transformation through the years, are very proud and knew that you were on to greatness. I can only imagine how excited you must be. Best wishes, all the support in the world, girl.

Thank you SO much for that comment!! I REALLY do appreciate each of your support as I know MUG wouldn’t be what it is without my viewers. So, thank you so much

You are the first beauty guru I started following and the only one I still follow!! :) The look is so beautiful especially with the addition of the Razzleberry! Marlena – can you do a update on your weight loss.. I started off on mine with you and would love to know how you are doing now.

So,so,so SO good to hear from you. You are my favorite person in the world please make another video in like a week PLEASE. Also please reply to this message.

:)Thank You:)

I love how you always consider all skin tones in your vids.

Dear, dear Marlena….any chance you could do a quick vid and how you style your hair?

I know it’s probably obvious for most MUGGIES, but for this beginner muggie, I am a dunce when it comes to styling my hair!

And I just love how you style your hair, would love to learn how to do that.

I’ve tried to find youtube vids on hair tutorials to get a similar style as yours, but no luck :(

Welcome back! So glad you had a lovely trip in Paris….thanks for taking us along! <3

You need a 1 1/2 inch curling iron and take medium sized sections and just wrap around the barrel. Then pin the curls to your head with a bobbi pin until they cool. After 5-10 min, unpin and run your fingers through to loosen them up, spritz with a little hairspray, and you’re done :)

You always do a great job and I have been following you for years, Thank you for being so warm and helpful when teaching people how to look their best :)

Would you consider doing a tutorial on airbrush makeup? There is a lot coming out and your opinion would be really helpful as to whether it is worth buying. Thanks for the consideration!

Most airbrush systems aren’t great as they take too much time to get any coverage at all. The professional ones aren’t too bad, but not worth the money… Just my input, but not everyone will agree ;)

I love it! I love the warm colors! so gorgeous! Also how do you make your eyelashes grow longer? What do you recommend the mascara or grow serum lashes? I have Tarte multiplEYE treatment 1. Is there another that make eyelashes grow longer at least $20.00 in store? I live in Texas.

I used Latisse which worked, but is SO expensive. Not worth the moola… You can always get lash extensions which is about $50 a month for upkeep. For lash serums, I’ve heard Rapidlash is pretty good :)

Marlena hope you can get back with me real soon by today before graduation at 7:30. Im want to do this look but will it go with a navy and turqouise summer dress? Silly question but not so good with colors and cordnitating with outfit. I need jpractice on that as Im going to school for MUA. Excited! Beautiful BTW!!! Take Care!!

Hey Marlena!

I was just curious about your nails in this vid. Are you still just wearing the pink acrylic? And if so is it the lightest pink? Cuz i love it!

Did you learn the jawline contouring trick in Paris?

I’d love to see some videos of any other face contouring/highlighting tricks you might have picked up over there.

Hope you’re having a great summer. This look is gorgeous.

So glad your back! Missed your tutorials! You’re such an inspiration and I just want to say thank you! Love this look, so beautiful <3

I stumbled across looking for eye makeup for brown eyes a few days ago. I am completely addicted! LOVE the tutorials.

Marlena, I think you are absolutely stunning and super charming! Keep up what you are doing and don’t worry about negative people. There always unhappy people no mater what because they are always unhappy.

I have a couple of questions regarding the future MUG gel liners. Will they be waterproof ? Will they be safe for the waterline? I love to put black on my waterline but it’s really hard to get something staying put all day long in there and not looking like a panda after a few hours.

Hi marlena I am 15 years old and I love doing makeup just for fun I have some Mac brushes but I have smaller eyes is there anything else I coukd use for a stiff dome brush and macs 219
Thanks marlena I was also wondering if u could do my prom makeup

Hi Marlena, like everyone else here I was really missing your tutorials! I was wondering if you are planning to remake the “Hillary Duff” look anytime in the near future? It seemed to have gotten the top votes in the polls. I was hoping to seem some of the naked pallets used on it, or even your own neutral shadow lines as an inexpensive alternative?

this look is by far one of my favorites ive been trying to find a way to make orange and all the colors in this vidio look nice and this look is something i want to wear everyday. also i just bought a few bright color but the one i was most excited about was s neon green ‘glitter’ shadow n i tried it with a purple n it was great but do you hve any better ideas for that color. if you cant tell i love bright color one of my fav look to do is your colorful smokey eye. also im sure youve never heard of it but L.A. colors eye shadow are amazing i get them from the dollar store n i love them i try to br frugal with make up but there are a few things that u just cant replace with cheap product i cant wait to try your lipsticks i can never find a decent one thats inexpensive n any product you seem satisfied with always works great
