Skincare Routine Basics
Here at Makeup Geek, we’re huge advocates for a healthy skincare routine. Skin is the true foundation and, let’s be honest, even the most beautiful blush or technically applied contour can’t look its best if the skin’s not in good condition.
Build your skincare routine around these four basic steps, and you’ll be well on your way to healthy and smooth-looking skin.
Best suds! Select a high-quality daily cleansing product to remove your makeup and get your skin feeling squeaky clean. Make sure that the cleanser you choose is suitable for your skin type (e.g., dry, oily, sensitive, etc.) or it may end up causing just as many problems as it’s meant to solve. To remove stubborn waterproof makeup, we recommend an oil-based makeup remover—there are numerous options on the market in a variety of price ranges.
Get toned! Aside from removing any last traces of makeup and cleanser, most toners are designed to minimize the appearance of pores and restore your skin’s pH balance.
Scrub a dub dub! An imperative skincare practice, gentle exfoliation will remove dead skin cells from the skin’s outermost layer and leave new, rejuvenated skin exposed at the surface (ahhh, love that super-smooth feeling!). Consistent exfoliation may even help improve mild acne and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Note: Limit exfoliation to 2-3 times a week (depending on your skin type) to avoid irritation.
Soak it up! The final step and the cornerstone of any good skincare routine…yep, you guessed it, moisturizer! Moisturizer forms a fine, protective layer on the skin’s surface that acts as a barrier between the skin and harsh environmental conditions. Its hydrating effects will prevent dry skin and can improve skin’s texture and tone. Pro Tip: Just like any other skincare product, it’s important to choose a moisturizer that’s formulated for your skin type.
There you have it, muggies! Let’s commit to maintaining a thorough skincare routine—we can do it! Remember: Identify the appropriate products for you according to your unique skin type and personal preferences. Catch you on the smooth-skin flipside!
