Hi, I would love to help you on this. I am 43 so I know exactly where you are wanting. The first thing is to make sure you have a good skin care routine. I use L’Oreal Age Perfect Glow Renewal after I clean my skin to add some moisture that we lose with age. I do that a couple of times a week and the rest of the time I make sure I am moisturizing.…[Read more]

  • If it’s a day wedding then keep the makeup soft and elegant. If it’s an evening wedding you can opt for more dramatic makeup but just make sure you don’t do more than the bride herself.

Also, Marlena did a bridal look but with that dress and your eyes it would be amazing! :-)

    http://www.makeupgeek.com/tutorials/modern-and-fresh-bridal-makeup/

  • Hi, I would try a taupe shade. It’s universal and works on almost everyone. From what I can see of your beautiful picture I think that would work great! :-) And I use a pencil but then go over it with some powder. It blend out the marks made by the pencil and gives it a softer look. All you need is a matching eye shadow as long as it has a matte finish.

  • Leslie replied to the topic MAC Dupes in the forum Makeup Geek Community 1 year, 1 month ago

Try Shimma Shimma, both are a shimmer champagne shade and Shimma Shimma is stunning! :-)

  • How often are you washing them? If you use your foundation brush daily you need to clean it at least twice a week to keep it from building up. Dawn shampoo, warm water and a sponge are the best thing I have found to clean my brushes. If any of them are stiff brushes you can also use a small amount of conditioner to soften them up. :-)

  • Hi, Try setting your eyeliner with a eyeshadow of the same color. This will act as a setting powder of sorts and help it stay in place. :-)

  • Hello Makeup Geeks! Today I have a blush review from an up and coming company, The Balm. Some of you have probably heard of this company as they are creating new, and very exciting products. Although these blushes are not new to their lineup, they are definitely worth sharing. These products were sent to us to review, but that in no way reflects our thoughts about these.

    Instain Blush-6
    Packaging
These blushes come in a sturdy cardboard compact that isn’t overly bulky and latches magnetically. The compact opens to reveal the blush along with a small mirror for touch-ups on the go. Each blush has a unique photo of a retro/vintage woman on the front, and the color of the packaging corresponds with the blush color. On the packaging of these blushes it shows what season these blushes are best worn in, although they can be worn at any desired time. No detail was overlooked in the design and construction of these.

    Instain Blush-4
    Product
The Balm Instain Blushes come in 6 beautiful and creamy shades, 3 of which are matte finishes and 3 satin. These blushes are highly pigmented, with a rich and smooth texture. The Balm Instain blushes are easy to apply and blend, as they lasted 9 hours on my skin without any signs of fading. Since these blushes are pigmented so intensely, its better to gradually build up the color. I would highly recommend these blushes as the pigmentation, color pay off, and wear time is exceptional.

Argyle – Soft Petal Pink with a matte finish (Perfect for fair skin)
Swiss Dot – Warm Medium Peach with a matte finish (Fair to dark skin)
Toile – Bubblegum Pink with a satin finish  (Medium to dark skin)
Lace – Vivid Bright Pink with a matte finish  (Medium to dark skin but great for darker skin)
Houndstooth – Medium Mauve with a satin finish (Medium to dark skin)
Pinstripe – Pink/Plum with a satin finish (Medium to dark skin)

    Instain Blush Swatches 02

Price: $22.00 for .20 oz of product.

Where to Buy: (Amazon) (eBay) (theBalm)

The Balm was kind enough to also send me the Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter to review as well. This highlighter is a highly pigmented shimmery champagne shade, great for subtile highlighting as it’s not too glittery. When using this highlighter be sure to blend it out really well with a beauty blender for a more natural look. Remember, less is more when using this product because it’s very pigmented!

Price: $24.00 for .30 oz of product.

Where to Buy: (Amazon), (eBay), (theBalm)

Thanks to everyone at theBalm for sending us these lovely products! Be sure to try out this brand as they’re available in some Kohl’s stores, as well as online. And thanks to all of you for stopping by, be sure and keep checking back for more reviews of some remarkable products.

  • ThumbnailHi Makeup Geeks! Today’s review is of the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) spring line-up, PLASTIC PASSION. As always, they have added some bright and fun new things to their line and we wanted to share them […]

  • Hi Makeup Geeks, it’s time for another review! As part of their spring collection Urban Decay released the Naked Ultra Nourishing Lip glosses. This will be a permanent addition to their line-up since they debuted their Lip Junkie in 2010. These are packed with ingredients that are good for your lips and leave them feeling hydrated, healthy, and nourished.

    Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss 01

    PACKAGING

Urban Decay has some of the best packaging and products on the market. These glosses come in a rose gold/champagne colored tube with “NAKED” embossed on the front. I love that the packaging is clear at the bottom so the tube, so the shade is clearly visible.  These glosses have a “flocked paddle” wand, which is a cross between a doe-foot wand and a brush that allows you to control exactly how much gloss is applied. This may just be my favorite applicator to date!

    Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss 02

    PRODUCT

The Urban Decay Naked lip glosses are very sheer and don’t have an intense color pay off which makes them ideal to use over a lipstick, or alone for a soft wash of color. These lip glosses are very hydrating, creamy, and light weight, as they have an ever so light sweet mint scent. Packed with hyaluronic filling spheres, these lip glosses help to blur the look of fine lines and fill in any imperfections. With the added benefits of vitamin e, avocado oil, rosehip seed oil, and shea butter, your lips will feel healthy and hydrated. As much as I like the nourishing aspects of these glosses, once applied they are so sheer that a few of the shades appeared identical. The biggest noticeable difference was between the shimmer and gloss finishes; for this reason you won’t need to buy every gloss available in this collection. The overall wear time was around 3 hours with needing to re-apply after eating and drinking.

    Shades:

Beso – Pink/Mauve/Plum with a neutral tones and a creamy finish.
Freestyle – Warm peachy/brown with a slight shimmer that fades on application.
Liar – Warm soft pink with a creamy finish.
Lovechild – Medium pink with a slight blue undertone and cream finish. One of my 3 favorites.
Naked – Definite warm toned medium tan shade with pink and white micro-glitter that creates a soft pink shift. Another one of my 3 favorites.
Nooner – Warm light muted coral with a very slight shimmer in the sun.
Streak – Warm medium peach/coral with a creamy finish and my absolute favorite!
Rule34 – The name definitely gets your attention! It’s a nude brown with a hint of deep pink/rose. Not to dark and very wearable.
Walk of Shame – Pale nude with shimmer. The only real difference I could see with this was the shimmer.

My favorite glosses from the collection are “Lovechild”, “Naked” and “Streak”.  The gloss with the most pigmentation and color payoff is “Beso”.  Urban Decay did a great job with these glosses, with their hydrating and nourishing properties these will not only make you look great, but soften and hydrate your lips as well. I highly recommend trying these glosses for Spring and Summer.

  • Kat Von D Esperanza Palette
Hi Makeup Geeks! Today I wanted to review with you the Kat Von D Esperanza palette to see how it compares with the Spellbinding Palette I fell in love with during the holidays. So lets get started!

    Kat von d Esperanza 03
     Packaging
Designed by Kat Von D herself, this limited edition palette is simply extraordinary!  This palette is made of a sturdy cardboard construction with a magnetic latch, small enough to take on the go, however I don’t recommend it for traveling. Containing 8 beautiful shades this palette is clearly labeled and opens to reveal a small mirror, however this palette doesn’t stay open, making it very difficult to use the mirror inside. True to the Kat Von D style, this palette is adorned with sugar skulls and flowers in vivid spring and summer shades. The palette itself comes in a sleek cardboard sleeve decorated in the same unique fashion.

    Kat von d Esperanza 02
     Product
This palette contains 8 shadows, 2 glitter shades, 2 mattes, 1 pearl, 2 sparkles, and the transforming eye shadow. The concept of the palette is layering shades to create new and exciting looks each time you use it. Included in the palette is the “transformer” shade, used on top of the other shades to “transform” them into new and exciting colors. The majority of these eye shadows wore very well and were easy to work with, as the over all wear time was well over 7 hours with no fading or creasing.

Selena – Cool purple with silver glitter. When swatched this color seems vivid and bright, but when applied it seemed somewhat faded. The sparkles moved quite a bit while I wore this, and there was some fall out but not as much as I expected. It wore well and lasted for over 6 hours.
Dayglo (Transformer Shade) – Slightly green tinted white shade. This can be used on it’s own, although it will need an off -white or white base to really enhance the color. As a transformer shade, it transforms the colors giving them extra dimension and a unique finish. It can however be quite powdery, so it’s best to use carefully and pat the color on. I loved using this shadow over Placebo and Selena!
Galore #2 – A sister to Galore #1 in the Kat Von D Spellbinding palette, this shadow is a very pigmented soft peach with small pieces of glitter, while Galore #1 was more sheer. This shadow was easy to blend and work with.
Placebo – This is a medium coral matte shade that is very pigmented, and applied smoothly and evenly. While it can be hard to find matte shades that deliver both great color payoff and a creamy consistency, this shadow has both.

    Bottom Row L to R

Santeria – This shadow is a cool-toned charcoal grey with teal and silver sparkles. The pigmentation was great, it blended easy, and lasted well over 8 hours without creasing. This was anther great shade to pair with Dayglo.
Archangel – A light aqua with a satin finish. I wanted to love this color SO BADLY, especially with that name! When I swatched this the color payoff seemed relatively good, but when applied it sheered out to almost nothing. Even when swatching this color it was noticeably more powdery than the rest. I give this two thumbs down!
South – A true light matte beige, this had great pigmentation and was easy to apply and work with. For a very basic neutral shade, it’s a really great. I’m glad it was included in the palette and I found myself using this as more of a transition and blending color than anything else.
Dog Roses – A copper brown with gold sparkles. My other favorite from this palette, as it has great pigmentation and blends well. This shadow has less sparkle than Selena and there was much less fall out.

Overall I really like this palette. I adore the idea of a “transformer” shade that can morph your colors instantly and give you a different look! These shadows tend to be slightly more powdery than most shadows, but need to be that way for the transforming shadow to work. Is it worth the money…..YES! If you love colors and playing with shadows then I would definitely pick this up while you can. Thanks for stopping by and keep checking back for more reviews on new and exciting products!

  • Hi Lisa,

i am actually older than Marlena at 43 years young! I actually use liner and eyeshadow on my lower landline but also leave it bare as you mentioned above. I find when I do other people’s eyes are naturally drawn away from my lower lash line and upward.  Always remember, you will see things on yourself others would never notice. I suggest…[Read more]

Can you believe it’s already November? It’s so hard to believe this year is almost finished. We have been amazed […]

  • Hi Again,

I know Marlena swears by the Ole Henriksen Vitamin C Serum . It’s very good and adds hydration to the skin without leaving it oily.

  • I am in love with the Kat Von D foundation, it’s very full coverage and a little goes a long way. I use this with a Beauty Blender and it comes our flawless every time. Just make sure you don’t use as much as you normally do, it’s very potent. :-)

  • You may need more than an actual moisturizer, it sounds like you need a serum to add moisture into your skin. Serums go deep into the skin than a regular moisturizer and allow nutrients to go into the skin where a regular moisturizer isn’t able to reach. Apply to your skin after cleansing but before moisturizing your skin to get all the benefits…[Read more]
