How-To: Bright Sunset with Makeup Geek Shadows

Makeup by Jangsara (, Text by Leslie

Jangsara is sharing another beautiful creation using Makeup Geek eyeshadows.  She’s provided us with a diagram and we also had a text tutorial to go along with it.  We’re trying something different here, so let us know how you like this format.

One of the most important parts of using color is not only the application, but the placement as well.  Placing colors in the correct position can make a dramatic difference in the way your masterpiece turns out.  (Another example of placement of some of these same colors is Petja’s Red Hot Valentine’s Day Look)

From an intense Outer V, to a soft wash of several shades over the rest lid, you eyes should always have a gradient effect going from one color to the next. There should never be any harsh lines between colors. This look, with its brilliant summer hues, is the perfect example.

Products Used:

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance (eBay) (Amazon)
  • Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – Yellow Brick Road – inner part of the lid (MakeupGeek Store)
  • Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – Chickadee – 2/4 of the lid (MakeupGeek Store)
  • Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – Mandarine  – 3/4 of the lid (MakeupGeek Store)
  • Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – Razzleberry – Outer part of the lid (MakeupGeek Store)
  • Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – Corrupt – Outer corner & crease (MakeupGeek Store)
  • Makeup Geek Eyeshadow – White lies  (MakeupGeek Store)
  • Black liquid eyeliner – upper lashline
  • Black gel liner – waterline
  • Mascara
  • Bulk lashes from eBay

Start by blending Razzleblerry onto the outer 1/3 of your eye lid; bring it up into the crease and feathering out. Take the same color and place it under the eye going iIn only about 1/3 of the way and bring it up in the outer corner until meets the Razzleberry. Next, take the shade Mandarin and a flat shader brush and place it where the Razzleberry ends, covering up the line where the Razzleberry stopped.

Gently feather it out onto the first ½ of your lid. While you’re at it, take the same color and put on the lower lash line starting where you stopped with Razzleberry and bring in leaving enough room for one more shade just in the inner corner and down onto the lower inside of your lash line.

Now, grab that gorgeous Chickadee, and do the same thing. Remember, each time you use a new color to go over the line from the previous color so they blend from one shade to the next.

At this point you should have the inner 1/3 of your eye left. Take Yellow Brick Road and apply to the inner part of your eye bringing it down on to your lower lash line to fill in that small part where the Chickadee stopped.

Remember, the key here is to blend, blend, and blend! This should look like one wash of color on your lids. The next step is completely optional. If you are happy with the way it looks, then feel free to stop here.

But for those of us, who love a more dramatic take on things, or to take this look from day to night, use a small crease brush and blend Corrupt into the Outer V section of your eye.

If you are uncertain on how to accomplish this part you can check out the classic tutorial “How to Define the Outer V”.  Just remember, placement is crucial in making your eye look like a stunning canvas of color.

Yes, beautiful indeed!
I would put sth darker instead of white lies though like Vanilla Bean..

love the look. But please go back to the video tutorials. like to see how the products are built up to create the look.

I love the way the colours all blend into one another. Prefer to see the step by step tutorial that Jangsara usually does, to see where to apply.

I really like the color diagram! Very helpful for me. You are truly gifted. Beautiful look; thanks so much!

I had to comment on this recent posting. MakeUpGeek and Jangsara are a great collaboration.
I love the extremely informative and simplified explanation on how to achieve this look.
With the photos and placement -of -eyeshadow diagram, makes it possible from the novice to
the artist to achieve this masterful look.

wow this looks so amazing!!! I’ve tried this one out as soon as I saw it on the website!!! I have fairly tanned skin but even then it looks fantastic on pretty much any skin tone :) Just remember if you’re going to do this look and you have darkish skin use a lighter tone than your skin colour just under the brow.

no please i liked the other format in which everything is described under the picture,
this format makes it more complicated.I agree the look is stunning but its very hard to keep on reading and then going back again to the pictures to see what color is the eyeshadow. Her earlier tutorial with the kristen stewart look was better in which she explained evrything with the pictures, because it makes more sense by seeing rather than

First of all, what a great color combo!! Job well done and a stunning look!!

But I have to admit, I do prefer Jangsara’s previous format in which she has a picture for every step for novices like me. And I also like the “Eye Map” is what I call it!…the pic of the eye lid and all of the colors of the shadows which is also very helpful…Thanks for all you do!!!

Hi Marlena/Jangsara,

Can you please let me know what setting I need to use on a camera to take such up close eye shots that do not look blurry. I have Canon Rebel T2I DSLR.

Lovely eyes, the colors are wonderful, but I prefer to have the step by step tutorial instead of this one. The video tutorial is better. Because you see the person eyes and face all together and it give you a better perspective if you like the look or not. Seeing the whole thing is better than just seeing one eye.

This is so beautiful! It actually looks like something I’d see Rihanna wearing. I don’t know why I think that, but I do. LOL. LOVE the MUG shadows! I love how you line your lash lines as well! I wish I could do that. You do such beautiful work! :-)

I absolutely love the look. However, I think the video tutorials are so much easier to follow. It helps me alot more seeing someone else doing it than having to read about it. I do love the look though.

Jangsara once again you created a gorgeous look with makeup geek products : ) just have one question do you have a tutorial video for this look? I would love to see how this id done. I would love to see one.You are artistic and creative.

I always see these really gorgeous makeup tutorials, and I love them. Despite being on the REALLY dramatic side of things, I want to wear them EVERY day (not just out clubbing)!! Let’s get some feedback, what would you guys think of a lady if you saw her walking down the street on a regular day, wearing a really dramatic look as lovely as this one?

this look is beautiful, i cant wait to try it, u r a very talented makeup artist, i love ur makeup
