Review and swatches: OCC lip tars

What is it?

Opaque, intence lip color that comes in various colors, and is mixable to make unique colors.

They Describe it as:

A stunning new innovation in lip color, OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Goes on slick and moist, and dries down to a satin finish. Ultra-saturated in color, Lip Tar contains an unprecedented amount of pigment – a little goes a very, very long way! An intense yet featherweight layer of color that stands up to the scrutiny of Hi-Def Video and Digital Photography, without ever looking (or feeling!) heavy. Meant to be mixed, Lip Tar comes in concise array of colors for a limitless selection of shades made by you!

Overall Opinion:

I’ve always been a kind of lipstick person more than lipgloss, but recently I’ve tried to use some glosses too. Lip tars are both opaque and glossy. I really like the texture, it’s runny, but not too runny.  Smell is also nice, they smell like peppermint.

I just love the whole idea of mixing your own shades (which you can kinda see from the swatch pics too : P), and adding black or white to control how light or dark you want your lipstick to be. Only imagination is the limit with these!

MUG Seal of Approval:  (5 out of 5)

All the colours are grate but obviously some are more suited for every day use than others. The whole idea of letting your creativity go wild and even make your own shade is just an awesome idea. Something is bound to come out before then but when Halloween comes around, if you do some more Halloween inspired make-up ideas I would like to see some of these colours coming through.

hi ! opposite colors can be used to desaturate a color, for example, a red can be toned down with a green and appear more brownish, an orange can be muted with blue and so on….

Actually just thought what would be magic would be if you use a thin lining brush use them as lip liner is well as a gloss/pigment. Green liner with yellow lips would be my option. Do something that even lady gaga would find outrageous lol

Hi there!

Sorry in advance for my approximative English (i’m a French makeup addict).

I am looking to buy the red one, but I fear to have the same problem with it, that a lot of us have : even if I use a lip pencil, even if I apply concealer all around my mouth, the lipstick (and only the red lipstick, not the other colors…that strange??) will go into the fine lines of my skin after only a few minutes, and it looks ridiculous..

Do you have the same with the NSFW lip tar? Or maybe an idea to avoid this problem?

I would recommend also making sure you moisturize every night as well as using the lip liner with your red lipstick! That should make your lips nice and smooth for applying the lip colour :) I hope it works out for you!

Thanks for your answer.

Yes I have quite dry skin/lips and I always moisturize them. I always use a lip balm (not to much, I remove the excess before applying the lip liner and lipstick) and a lip liner before I apply my red lipstick, but after only 30 minutes the lipstick goes into the fine lines around the mouth.

I have found a solution : After I have applied my lip liner and lipstick, I apply a “linefiller” with a little brush all around my mouth. And my lips look perfect for hours.

FYI I use “Clarins base lissante”

I’m selling these lip tars in sample forms if any of you are interested in trying out some first before committing the full sizes.

let me know if you have any concerns ;)

Ehh, these look a little too much like paint for me. If it was shiny like gloss or slick (is that the word?) like lipstick these would be nicer. Just going by the pictures it looks like you took kids’ poster paint and put it on your lips.
