Review: Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation

Hello beautiful Makeup Geeks!

I hope you’re having a great start to your week and are staying healthy and happy :)  Here is my review of a new foundation that I’m liking so far- the Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation.   xoxo  -Marlena

With so many foundations on the market right now, trying to find a new one can be an intimidating task!  Especially when you walk into a drug store and see walls filled with bottles promising to cover, create flawless skin, and give you a youthful glowing appearance.

With high end brands such as MAC, NARS, Chanel, and Make Up For Ever now available to everyone, drug store brands have had to come up with better products to compete.

The first thing you will notice is that the foundation comes in a convenient pump bottle instead of the regular bottle that you have to shake and turn out onto your finger. Take notice other foundations, we find this bottle easier to work with and much handier.  Yay Maybelline!!

When the product is initially pumped out, it has a mousse like texture but when you begin to spread the product out, it has a very gel like consistency.  It also doesn’t dry as fast as some other foundations like the Revlon Colorstay.

Maybelline Dream Liquid Mouse offers full coverage and smoothes out very nicely and blends easily into the skin for a natural look. It provides a nice sheen to the skin without being overly shiny or oily looking. The pricing on this is the best part, but varies on where you purchase it. Overall it runs between $8.00 – $11.00.

This foundation comes in 12 shades so finding a shade that will work perfectly for you is easy. The colors are as follows:

  1. Light 1 – Porcelain Ivory
  2. Light 2 – Classic Ivory
  3. Light 3- Natural Ivory
  4. Light 3.5 – Nude Beige
  5. Light 4 – Nude
  6. Light 5 – Creamy Natural
  7. Medium 1 – Sandy Beige
  8. Medium 2 – Pure Beige
  9. Medium 2.5 – Natural Beige (This is the shade I am using in the video)
  10. Medium 4 – Honey Beige
  11. Dark 2 – Caramel
  12. Dark 3 – Cocoa

Overall I really like this product so far! I like the mousse to gel like consistency which allows it to glide on smoothly and doesn’t dry out my skin, leaving it feeling heavy or cakey. It offers a nice sheen to the skin for an added healthy glow (which is great for my dry skin). I recommend this for dry to combination skin, but if you have oily skin, I would pass as it may slide a bit too much…

What I love:

  • The price
  • The lightweight texture
  • The medium coverage and satiny finish

What I don’t like:

  • May not be best for oily skin
  • Could have a wider range of colors
  • Texture:  5 out 5
  • Longevity: 3 out of 5
  • Packaging: 5 out of 5
  • Pigmentation: 5 out of 5
  • Price:  5 out of 5
  • Quality:  4 out of 5
  • Would I buy again?  yes

Price:   $8

Where to Buy:    Amazon  .  eBay  .  Most Drugstores

Hi! Thanks for the review. I wanted to know if this foundation would be good for photos? If you would be able to include how foundations look in photo’s It would be so helpful!! THANKS!!!! Btw the bloopers were so funny!

I have tried it, it was okay, good consistency and coverage, but even the lightest shade is to dark for me.

I will try it! Thanks for the review . I love your videos :) , you Are the first guru I watched videos from and by far my favorite ….take care

Thanks for the review. Marlena, I’d love to see a tutorial of the look you are wearing in this video. It’s very fresh and pretty.

Did you have any issues with this oxydizing on your face? This was my problem, after wearing it for a few hours it would change color.

Thanks for the review. I’ve been looking for a good foundation for my dry skin. Does this look good in photos? I’m trying to find something to wear for my wedding.

Can’t wait to try this. Loved the finish. Also, could you please tell me what nail polish you’re wearing. I’ve been looking for a color just like that!! Thanks. :)

It is what I use now but agree if u have oily skin it shows within two or three hours. Shade is nice though.

ive been using this foundation for over 3 year now- it’s definitely not new!! That being said, it’s by far one of my all time favorites. I tend to mix a few different foundations together, but this one is truly a standout product! Great for dry skin, and gives awesome coverage. I have a lot of redness in my face, and I find that I use minimal product to achieve the full coverage I need. Glad to see that this is finally being reviewed!!

i used this forever until i started paying for higher end ones. it is really great and better than some at sephora, even

Hey Marlena,
i have a question concearning foundations – that’s why i put my question here.
i read something about airbrush foundations and was wondering what you think about those. i have to admit that i like referring to you instead of trying out new things – especially when its something like airbrush foundation which i have never ever heard of ;) so, do you have any experience with that kind of foundation?! Thanks in advance… and thanks for all your awesome tutorials :)

i was watching in another video that marlena likes the look of airbrush foundation but doesn’t like the bulkiness of the whole kit but in the new video of her “fave top 10 high end products” she lists a foundation that she says gives the same result as airbrushing without the bulky tools. hope that helped! : )

I tried the maybelline airbrush foundation, WHAT A NIGHTMARE! i will try this one because its inexpensive, cross my fingers. I found it had alot of glitter, so i worry about this one. that was the same with the Revlon Photoready airbrush foundation. that one had so much sparkle, like, Whos gonna wear this everyday? Marlena, if you or any MUGS come across the ELF foundation, I would recommend it. For $6, it has full coverage, a smooth matte finish, just not alot of color variety. LOVES IT! Also if you could check out the Avon Extreme wear foundation, Its fantastic for longwear, blends amazingly, I love it with your stippling brush. THANKS FOR THE REVIEW just gotta wait for some maybelline coupons!

I have to say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!! With out your review I would have never tried this product. This is the best foundation that I have ever tried. I have extremely dry skin, and not exactly an even skin tone, and to mix in with that also a few spider veins, this foundation does it all. Exceptional Coverage with a slightly dewey finish, but not shiny. Wonderful!! Marlene you are quite simple the BEST make-up guru out there. sweet. kind, and informative with a sense of humor. can’t get better than that!

i used to use this foundation all the time before i could afford to spend a bit more on my makeup and i do not like it it oxidized really badly i felt like Snooki even using the lightest shade it turned orange on my skin by noon i had no foundation left i tried everything to make it work because i loved the price and finish but sadly it just doesnt work for my skin

Hi Marlena…please please or can you show us what you do for your more natural look in this video..or email me if it’s less work for you.I’ve seen it on a few of your non-tutorial ones and it’s a natural look I have been trying to achieve for years (literally). I can’t seem to find that? one in between no makeup and full makeup.

I am 50 years old and love wearing makeup! I can’t tell you how much of a dfference you have made in my application and products used. Thank you with all my heart.

p.s. Love Love Love All of your videos and watch every one! Thank you for your inspiration, tremendous talent and beautiful way of touching those of us who adore you! Congratulations on your weight loss!!!! You are simply amazing!! xo

Hi Marlene or any Mug:) can you please tell me which color foundatio i can use to replace MAC NC 35? I have Dry/Oily skin. Thank you!:)

I know this is going to be a weird post, but I didn’t know where else to go for help. I shot a video (topic doesn’t matter to you guys) and I’m wearing two foundations – 1 Revlon ColorStay (by Marlena’s recommendation) and the 2nd- Bare Minerals matte finish.
The RCS was shot after I had the makeup on my face for 9 hours (I have very oily skin production) and the BMin was shot after 1-2 hours of having it on. I can’t tell which shoots better. The RCS felt more heavy by the end of the day (like I seriously need a blotting sheet) and the BMin felt like I didn’t have any on. Can you give me some opinions on which one looks better on me?
The RCS is the pink shirt, the BMin is in the grey shirt.
sorry, I don’t have “girlfriends” so I didn’t know who else to trust in their opinion besides MUGeekers.

would it be possible to have a document referral for products recommended for dry and oily skin? (moisturizers, foundations and primer) It would be AWESOME to have a one stop shopping list so we can review watch and shop. :)

I bought this about a year ago, it ABSOLUTELY did not work for me.. I have extremely oily skin and it just slid right off. However, I have the maybelline dream matte mouse and it is AMAZING! It’s matte, it covers everything, it feels nice, and I like the packaging(: So for people with oily skin, I would highly recommend that one instead(:

Thank you for this reveiw. I saw it the other day and almost got it and with oily skin I am so glad I didn’t .

Thank you for this review I bought this foundation as my current one priori mineral foundation was giving me breakouts, so I bought the maybelline dream liquid mousse foundation and it did not give me any breakouts. Marlena I do have a question though I bought the maybelline foundation in creamy natural which matches my skin colour exactly. Are you meant to purchase foundation a little darker then your skin colour? Also I had no why off applying it on my face so I just rubbed and dabbed it in as I had a cheap imitation of a beauty blender and it just did not work. I do have the beauty blender from your store on it’s ways do you just dab it on your skin?

Hey thanks for the review!!!! I bought it a few days ago, and I don’t know why, but for me, when I apply this foundation, my acne seems to go away!!!!! And it does give a GREAT coverage!!!!! It became one of my favorite makeup products ever!!!!!

I thought this product was a 1 out of 10. It might be lightweight but i personally think it gives little to no coverage and people like me who want to look flawless would not like this

i use this foundation i just bought it but i don’t think its my color or maybe its the mineral powser im using. im very fare so i always have to get the lightest color
