I usually put some loose powder on top of my cheeks, so that when the shadows fall, the loose powder keeps it from ruining my face makeup- use a big soft fluffy brush and sweep away gently

Olive Oil Organic Shampoo (green bottle in the ethnic hair section at Walmart or Target)
Catwalk Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner

This is my first comment ever on your website…. I’m the type that just watches and leaves lol
but I have to say this look blew me away and I had to leave a comment. I saw all your tutorials and this one is one of my favs.
I am looking to go into makeup and hair professionally. More towards bridal path.
But I am not sure if it is for me… I work in I.T and I want a career change, I’ve always wanted to be in makeup or hair etc.
so I am definately gonna persue this new career and will deff. let you know how I get you. (I hope you do read this)
anyway, my questions is: what is your first and best tip to someone like me who is looking to get into this line of work? and is there any other way to contact you apart from leaving comments here? where everyone can read them

Either here or by email is good- the contact form on the front page of the site filters to me
I would start doing makeup on the side to start to see how the market is in your area and see if you really like it. You can do it on the weekends when you’re not working your IT job- contact wedding coordinators, local salons, local makeup counters, churches, etc to get the word out that you are doing bridal makeup. Make sure to have business cards to pass out and put together some really good pictures of your work
so i love this look i think its really really pretty im goin to try it soon.

Marlena, I took your suggestion and just bought some NYX jumbo eye pencils, and I love them. They give great color and lasted all day!!! Thanks for that suggestion. I really wasn’t that big into makeup before a couple of months ago, but now i watch your tutorials to learn how to play up my eyes. And I think I’m getting better at it. The brush I usually use for the lid is MAC’s 239 brush as it is flat and stiff enough to pack on decent amount of color

This is a fab look, very Holiday!!! I just love your vids.. and your make up store is fab also… I ordered on friday got it on monday… I love that I can get just the samples of MAC pigments, instead of spending 19.99 on a whole jar that will never be all used in this life time. Also I want to thank you for using painterly paint pot in you vids cause this is a great eye primer and like it much better than UDPP or Too Faced Shadow Insurance.. That’s true! When I go to Sephora (my fav. store for shopping),the girls there ask me about my makeup, if I one of the artists at the store just did it. I laugh and then I just say, “I did it myself but I watch makeupgeek.com”, one time a girl replied, yes we all watch Marlena. lol! Have you ever tried eyeslipsface.com? This website has makeup brushes for $1. I recently bought the pack of twelve, and I’m in love with the blending brush. It’s nothing like described on the website; it’s better. Reminds me of the mac 217 brush.

do you feel your face needs more coverage? If so, try using a liquid foundation if you have normal to dry skin, and mineral foundation if you have oily skin. My favorite foundation that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg (and a kidney and couple fingers
haha) is Revlon’s Colorstay Foundation

I love your YouTube tutorials! I have been inspired to play around with my makeup like a little girl! ? I have a Maybelline palette (seashore frosts) that has similar colors to the look. If I created the same look, will it be overdone? And would I use the same lip color? Thanks so much!
It’s hard for me to say as I would need to see the palette
But, if the colors are similar, it should be fine- just keep the lips pretty neutral to balance out the look

Have you tried the gel liners in the store? They’re pretty good- not as good as mac’s fluidlines, but I use them and like them
Or, you could use Loreal HIP’s cream liners

I like to buy lots of sheep price makeups but i don’t use them.
The make up that i’m having trouble with is Lola or lots of sheep makeup.

They’re both really good- I’d say if you are using just for you, get the primer potion. If you plan to use with other people, get the too faced as it’s more sanitary since there is no wand

You can get one at any dug store for pretty inexpensive. I have a Maybelline angled eyeliner brush and it works perfect! It was only $3.00 from Wal-mart.

I love this look, I am always looking for ideas to do with blues and purples! I saw the look in the Sephora catalog and immediately started trying to create a look like that with my own products. I then watched your video and that was another twist to the look! I walked into Sephora the other day and everyone LOVED the look. I combined elements of the three looks my eyes popped without being too overly dramatic! I love the fresh twist of classic looks you bring to the table! Thank you soo much Marlena!!!

I was in Sephora the other day & I noticed they had this HUGE makeup palette called the “Ultimate Blockbuster”, I was wondering if you thought this may be a wise investment considering the wide array of colors it offers & if the Sephora Branded products were of high quality in comparision to the ones you use (i.e. MAC, Coastal Scents, Urban Decay, etc.)

I love this look soo much. I am 14 years old and I live in the Uk. I recreated this look using purples and it looked great!! I used Barry M pigments in #90 (Pearly Mauve) and #59 (Lilac) and my sister’s palette from Claires Accesories to get a bluey purply colour!
