For some reason this look just screams “80s” at me :]
I couldn’t pinpoint it, until I read this! I think that’s why I like it so much! LOL
OMG, Saloly, thats the 1st thing I thought! I wore these same colors when I was allowed to begin wearing makeup, altough hardly as good at the finished look, …
Hey Marlena!
I love this look on you! I like the dramatic looks although i cant pull-off those looks. For me, less is better..for you, mm welllll it seems like you could pretty much pull-off any look. I was wondering if you could do a look that is a natural yet fun look… ??
Thanks(:
WOW! Your artistry with color is just amazing and sooo inspiring!
your drop dead gorgeous! i absolutly love this look!! im gonna try it soon.
im going to be running out of my MAC studio fix powder foundation soon,
and i was thinking of using a drugstore brand next since ive been using the revlon colorstay for my liquid foundation and found it amazing i was hoping there would be a brand that could measure up to the mac powder, i strongly trust your reviews and wanted your opinion on some you have used.
THANKS (:
XOXO sarahnicole
also im an NC30 (:
I’ll see what I can think of for pressed powder
My favorite cheaper loose powder though is the Palladio Rice Powder- isn’t too heavy and has a smooth finish
Thanks so much for your time(:
they sell the palladio brand at a sallys store near my house so thats very conveinent, im just wondering how to use it without caking since its loose
how do you apply the loose powder?!
(:
XOXO Sarahnicole
Marlena suggests, and I’ve been using the same method as well, that you use a small powder puff, she recommends nyx, and just get little bits of the powder on the puff and pat it sparingly over the whole face to set the liquid. As long as the liquid is not wet still it won’t cake. Also, for touch ups, make sure to blot with a tissue or blotting pad to get oil and sweat up first so it won’t cake.
Beautiful!
So beautiful!!
You getting skinnier on every video! Thumbs up!!
love this look! i love that you’ve been showing us so many different brands lately.
i was wondering, what kind of make up remover do you use?
I use the Clinique one that’s oil free
thanks! i’ve been using mary kay’s. its pretty good but doesn’t get everything. i’ll have to try it.
Hi Marlena!!
Just wondering if you put your foundation on your eyelids before you put on your primer or not at all?
Thanks!
I actually do! Great question! It helps prime the lids even more
Ok I thought you did!
Thank you!!
Ok, so now I’m really confused. You put foundation on before a primer?? Do you put foundation and primer on before paint pots too??
Hi Marlena!!!!!!! I’m such a fan of you and the website. I love all of your tutorials; they’re soooo informative!!!!!! I’m always learning something new. Have a question for you: I’m a lighter-skinned African-American woman, and I’m having a hard time finding foundation in the drug store. I’ve been wearing MAC since 1998, and it has always worked for me. (no breakouts or allergic reactions) After watching some of your tutorials, I went to Ulta and Wal-Mart to find Revlon Colorstay foundation. It looks like the colors are either too light or too dark. I’ve been wearing NC42 in liquid foundation and C40 in Studio Fix powder foundation. Any suggestions? Thank you!!!!!
What I do is pick 2 colors and mix them- go to your closest drugstore and hold up the bottles to your jaw and find the 2 closest colors. Then mix them if needed for the perfect match (If you get on sale, it’s still much cheaper buying 2 bottles of Revlon vs 1 of the mac)
Great unique look! You are looking gorgeous & are getting soooo tiny! Keep up the great work!
Hey there Beautiful! Really love this look! The colors are gorgeous, but are there any NYX or any cheaper shadows? LOVE YOU AND YOUR INCREDIBLE SKILLS!
<3
I’ll post some NYX dupes now
Thank you so much!(:
Marlena, love your hair right now!! Just saw some of your first tutorials (short hair with blonde here and there) and noticed that the color and the lenght you have right now is much better and flattering for you. Now you look like an upgraded version of yourself
)
Question – do you have any suggestion of treating large pores? especiallly on the nose? not just makeup but a product that actually minimizes them?
Thanks
Love, Katerina
Hi Katerina! I have that problem too, but my pores are on my cheeks next to my nose- ugh…
The best thing that I’ve read on is toner- you’ll apply this after you wash your face and before you moisturize. It’s supposed to help shrink them. I also get glycolic peels done somewhat regularly, and I think it’s helping just a little
Thanks, Marlena, I \’m considering getting the Clinique 3-step in for skin type 3. Hope this will help.
Love Katerina
Try Aveda! Tourmaline Charged Radiance Fluid! Green Science Replenishing Toner works great too, but you’ll have to have dry skin for that one!
Worked wonders for me!
That’s beautiful! thank you Marlina
hey this is an amazing look. love it so much.
I have never used a cream bluch before and i am interested in trying them. i was wondering if you had any cegestions to what kind you like best
I’ve been LOVING cream blushes lately as my skin is a little dry and it’s getting colder out, so they give a beautiful dewy finish to my cheeks
My favorite ones are the Illamasqua and the NYX ones (I’m not just saying that because I sell the NYX- they really are nice and have lots of color options!)
i loveeee this… i am goingto try with a olivey green under the eye and green eyeliner….
i am also very jealous of your eyes… hahah as random as that sounds..
your eyes are perfect for any look….
beautiful!
Thank you SO much! You’ll have to post your version in the forum as I’d love to see your look
Love your videos!! and love this look! I love Stila products so it was awesome to see a video using some of them!
I really like this, but I´ve never tried pink e/s on me! I´m not shure if it looks good on me.
I love your videos, one question for you; How/when can I apply MAC pigments?thank you.
You can apply the MaC pigments anywhere and everywhere
(Unless it says otherwise- some aren’t meant for the eyes)
The best way is to use a stiff flat brush and pat on- no swiping, so you get less fallout. OR, you can mix with clear lipgloss or any cream product to create the color you want.
Love your work as always… just a quick question what’s a good eyelash curler to use???… i have short and very straight eyelashes that need serious curling thanks
Shu Uemura is the way to go, love.
Thanks
Heyy :d I was wondering if u can make like a retro makeup look for prom
.
I’m actually taping a retro look in 2 weeks- It’ll be posted in November
Thank you so much !
every make up look just looks good on you Marlena Goddess! i just like our eyes, nose everything and i want to thank you always for making different videos for us. I can’t wait to watch the vampire look that you did for this halloween. Take care always and more power to MUG!
hahaha! well thank you!!
Hi Marlena!
I’ve been away for a while but I checked all your last videos and…what can I say, gorgeous looks as always. You’re so professional! I love what you do and how you do it!
Love Halloween Tutorials, specially Maleficient and Sleeping Beauty.
Masquerade from Smashbox Collection is my favorite look of all =) Where can I buy Smashbox?
I like that it is a more wearable version of 80′s makeup. As pretty and bright as it is, I think you could get away with wearing this look to work. I could but my job is not typical.
I’d wear it to work too
But I’m pretty bold with my makeup for everyday- everyday to me means um… blue and pink- haha!
I like your new avatar! Rocking the heart lips!
I’m pretty bold too, lol, especially since I’m a guy rocking the bright colors. I work with makeup so I can get away with more, I suppose than if I worked at the bank. Thanks on the Avatar, it’s from my last look I posted for Halloween, you’re such a sweet heart.
I work in an office, but don’t have your typical “office job.” I’m also wearing my take on this look as I type this… at work.
LOVE this one!!
HI Marlena! I have to admit your website has turned me into a makeup geek! Your tutorials are fabulous and I’ve learned so much!
I’m so glad to hear that! “Welcome to the dark side” haha Snatching one makeup geek at a time…
Thanks Marlena for posting yet another fab tutorial. While I can’t always wear and master the looks you show us, I LOOOOVE watching how you put them together! You are so talented!! You always inspire me to do my make up better and better

I know! Not sure why, but I’ve been loving the Illamasqua products lately! I didn’t use to like them, so I swear they must have changed their formulations as they’re 100 times better now
love this look!!!and colors!! You always inspire me!!!
Marlena,
I have small eyes and I squint when I smile so I am looking for looks to make my eyes look bigger. Should I use liner and mascara on my bottom lashline?
Also what do you suggest for someone over 40? I have blue eyes and need a clean, professional look for the day.
I LOVE your tutorials and i have learned so much from you. I must confess that I have turned into a makeup geek and I love it

Marlena! This look is fabulous! I want to say that you look incredibly beautiful!
I got addicted to make-up at 16 and to your site 3 month ago, and you opened for me completely new and professional way to do my face. I’m SO MUCH thankful to you for your great job.
and I have a question – which face mask are you using (I hope you use some, for purifying skin or against acne or to moisturize?) and it would be so helpful to get a review of some products to treat the face in these rare moments when we do no have make-up!
I’m Irina and I live in Austria but originally I’m from Siberia and I’m a MUG!
Hi, Marlena! Love this look!!!!
I just want to thank you for all your great tips for makeup, they’re so good!! I’m looking for new colours for me, I have brown-green eyes, and my hair is dark brown. I’ve always used greens and greys, but now I want to change! And it’s because of you, I’ve discovered colours that I thought I never could use!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I REALLY LOVE YOUR WEB!!
And I have to tell that I’ve become a MUG too!!

Hey Marlena!
Thank you for all your hard work. It certainly looks like your loving your job. You are so professional and gorgeous. I’m probably one of your older MUGs (57). I’ve learned so much from watching your tutorials. I was hoping you could help with two issues. First, tips and techniques for applying e/s to deep-set eyes. Second, my hair is gray (I like saying silver he he he) what color should I use on my brows? I used to have golden brown hair. Not sure if I should be using a charcoal color or a med brown color. Very confusing. Again, thank you for giving us so much of your time and knowledge. You are truly gifted to be able to reach and appeal to the young and the old. Looking forward to your reply.
Beautiful! Wonderful! I lo?e this look (don’t blame me, blame my parents) My name is means beautiful and wonderful so when I saw this look I though of me. Even though I’m not an advanced…I’m a beginner. I don’t practice makeup that much because I don’t have primer and my eyes hurt when I put makeup on so I don’t play around with my nails and clothes. I hope you do more advanced looks. Don’t think it doesn’t look like a peacock! I believe that it’s great. I hope you wear that look often. I love your YouTube. I also like MIsschievous, julieg713, kandeejohnson, bubzbeauty, and michellephan. Don’t worry! You’re also on my list, too! I have my own website, too! It’s about Beauty but it’s mostly about a fictional character (that I made up) named Kathleen who loves Beauty so she hosts pageants to show off what a great style she has. I hope you like it! please visit my site! On my site it has a page called Videos. I use YouTube beauty videos (but give credit to the gurus!) and I put a lot of yours!! So I hope you’re glad I chose some of your videos to put on Videos of my website! If you’re a MakeupGeek than please check out mirabellepageantgirl.webs.com. I’m NOT being paid by Marlena to show a lot of my friends Marlena’s beauty videos–I just really like and want to let my friends know waht’s new on MakaupGeek.

Thank you!

hey i love all your videos did you happen to get anything from the new venamos villians mac collection and if so what and do you like it
Hey Marlena–
I LOVE this tutorial! I don’t have the stila palette but I have all of these colors in similar MAC shades so I’ll be trying this look this weekend at a wedding.
I did have a question though- I know before the fiberwig mascara, you were really loyal to the L’Oreal Voluminous mascara and I have been using that one for years after trying a whole bunch of other brands too. I was wondering what your thoughts were on the L’OREAL carbon black voluminous. I read some bad reviews on this about clumping but I wasn’t sure if the formula was similar to the regular voluminous one.
Thank you!!
Hello Marlena I have been watching your tutorials since the JLo look which is my all time fav you ave really showed me how to perfect makeup..I had a question about coastal scents 88 palettes I have the original and love it but I’m now wanting the 88 ultra shimmer 88 metal mania and 88 warm palettes iv read great reviews on them being comparable to urban decay and mac but I would love to know if you have tried any and what you think. Thanks!
your make up is ultimate,,mmuaahhh,,
I am just so excited to have found your site. Marlena ..You are truly amazing, and beautiful and just so free doing what you do…I’ve always been a little worried to play with colors on my face, and I’ve never been the best at applying make up, so always kept it basic, simple.,..and frankly boring ! but watching your tutorials has made me feel a little bolder, and I know with some practice and following your techniques I’ll get better with time and finally get the looks I’ve always wanted =)
thank you
I just wanted to let everyone know that the palette Marlena used is now on sale @ Sephora.com for $19!!
Hi Marlena,
I love all your videos! I have a question, can i use one eyeshadow color on my eyes (asian fair skin)…i don’t have enough time to mix and stuff.
