I can't believe some of these comments.

***DEPOTTING FAQ!***

-What is the purpose of depotting?
Think about it. She mentions buying palettes. The purpose of depotting is to save time and space by putting the eyeshadow pans into a PALETTE. Why are you even watching the video if you don't know the purpose of its subject??

-Why do you use magnets? WHY OH WHY OH WHY??
Think about it. You're probably not going to stick the shadow to your fridge, correct? Maybe, then, the magnet helps the shadow stay firmly in the palette!! Something has to help it stick in there, right? If you just laid it inside the little slot, it would fall out when you moved the palette, and your shadow would probably break.

-Where do you get the magnets?
She said right in the video that she got them at Jo-Ann's. If you don't have that store near you, shop online, or try another craft store. You could probably even find suitable magnets at a store like Wal-Mart. If you are not from America, I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with what stores in your country stock, and I doubt that makeupgeek is, either. Google search so you can shop online. You will be looking for something like "sticker magnets," "adhesive magnets," or "magnetic tape."

-How do you stick the magnets on?
. . . I don't know what it is about magnets that's so hard to grasp. They are adhesive-backed, like a sticker. If you are trying to use some type of magnet that doesn't have adhesive backing, get really creative and try GLUE.

-Can you use the Back-To-MAC program with the depotted containers?
This is actually a pretty good question, but unfortunately, the answer is a little bit complicated. Read closely.
Koren of EnKoreMakeup actually talked to a manager at a MAC store. I trust his information because he buys so much MAC that I imagine the employees' eyes turn into dollar signs whenever he walks in. The manager told him that it is MAC policy to only accept shadows WITH the pan present--meaning, the depotted containers would not be accepted. Koren advised viewers to buy replacement pans online (they are very inexpensive, especially in bulk) and Back-To-MAC the packaging that way.
HOWEVER--I have heard numerous stories of people bringing back packaging without the pan and having no problems receiving their free shadow or lipstick. Therefore, some stores or counters are unaware of that new policy, or don't adhere to it.
IN SUMMARY: It is technically not company policy to Back-To-MAC shadows without the metal pan. However, some stores or counters will allow you to Back-To-MAC shadows without the pan anyway.

I hope that clears some things up, if anyone bothers to read it. Makeupgeek, you are a saint.

this is more of a response to an earlier comment made by Opal (comment #49)...yea..i have the same problem but you just kinda get used to it. at first it was a bit funky to use but after a few more times, you get the hang of it and it works out pretty well. but back on topic..mac comestics...i always liked the way they look on other people...just not on me. i'm jealous of you girls that can wear it so well.

To Luna - I haven't done this as I've only ever desired my MACs be out of pots but the ENTIRE bottom of the MAC palatte is metal so if you pop out the black plastic part that has separated pieces for the different eyeshadow pans you can put magnets on whatever you want and put them in there! :)

I understand why someone would depot MAC eyeshadows.....

My question is that before I started buying mostly MAC shadows, I bought a lot of misc eyeshadows of different shapes and sizes and therefore have a lot of bulky containers. I want to depot these to condense the space, but I wouldn't know what to do after that since there isn't really a palette out there for it....

Any suggestions? Thank you!!!

I just purchased the instyler and mine does NOT have the option to switch the way the bar rotates. This is very anoying , it takes me like 25 minutes to use because of that, my hair generally turns out okay

I wondered the same thing about the wax paper- to be safe you could use parchment paper (in the same section as wax paper and plastic wrap at the grocery) which doesn't have any coating on it.

BTW, no one at MAC (both store and counter) has EVER offered this program to me- sometimes they can be so snooty!

Has anyone used the Coastal Scents 15pce palette? It looks a bit smaller than MAC Pro's 15, but otherwise I'm wondering if it's decent- it is only $8!
