How to Create Flawless Skin
Each of us have skin “flaws” or imperfections that we don’t like- the key is to hide those flaws while still enhancing your natural beauty. Here is my attempt at creating flawless yet natural looking skin.
Products Used:
- Make Up For Ever Camouflage Palette
- MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
- Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation
- MAC Emote Blush
- Nars Orgasm Blush
- MAC Fix+ Spray
- Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Gold

Hi, I was just wondering where makeup forever products are purchased. I have never seen them in my area. Are there any other products you could use instead of the Make Up For Ever Camouflage Palette? I have redness I would like to cover. Thanks!
You can buy MUFE products at Sephora
I know just about every brand now makes a green based concealer or primer- I just can’t think off the top of my head any specifically…. I know Smashbox has a green primer, but is a bit pricey
I like the MUFE palette as it has a variety of colors for multiple skin “problems”
Hi! Well, I pretty much do the same thing with my face as far as foundation, concealing, and contouring goes. I’m all set there in that department. But I just have a little request… I just love your techniques and what you do with all the colors so I’m wondering if you can do a more subtle look. You know, something that’s more appropriate for work, something to wear on a daily basis. I would loooove a tutorial but advices on colors would be much appreciated too. Thanks. =)
Btw, thanks for the tip on the MAC Fix + Spray. I’ll definitely check that out.
I see “my” room as been turned into the production room. I approve of such use of the room while I am not there. Ok….aaaaand Action!
Thanks for your advices.
Hi, I was just wondering where Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation are purchased I have never seen them in my area. Are there any other products you could use instead of the Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation?
Thank you!!
I was wondering if there is an alternative to the MAC finish product. I’m a poor college student, but I really think that’s exactly what I need.
ok i c u used foundation, when i saw this tutorial i went to go buy foundation b/c i see how nice ur face turned out and 2 days after i used it i started to break out. so i only use powder and ive tried to go wit bare minerals and that didnt help either so now i use maybeline mineral powder but it does give me the same look like foundations would what can i do???????? help!!!!…my skin plus i have scars and i know foundation can cover it but it will only bring me more lol
marlena please respond!!!!
Ok, I see your question- sorry!
What brand foundation are you using? If it breaks you out, I would return it and tell the store that you had problems with it. With foundations, it is very hit and miss- you have to keep trying until you find one that is the right color for your skin and that doesn’t break you out.
If your scars are pretty noticeable, you will need to use concealer underneath your minerals or foundation. Are you oily or dry skin? If you’re closer to dry skin, then liquid is the way to go- we just need to find you the right foundation that your skin won’t have problems with.
Can you post this question in the forum? There are some skin specialists on there that can help more with the skin issues than I can…
MARLENA…
OK FIRST I TRYED MAC FOUNDATION, IVE EVEN TRIED THE POWDER MIXED WITH FOUNDATION, BARE MINERAL FOUNDATION, AND THE LAST ONE WAS MAYBELINE FOUNDATION AND IT SAYS IT IS MINERAL BASE…..SO FOR NOW IM STICKING TO JUST THE MINERAL POWDER FROM MAYBELINE. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO CUZ POWDER ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER ITS GONE BY THE END OF THE DAY. I USED TO USE THE MAC POWDER BUT I FELT THAT WAS TOO OILY BASED. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE OILY SKIN. I FEEL LIKE THERE IS NO FOUNDATIONS FOR ME. LOL WHATEVER IVE USED IT MAKES ME BREAK OUT. ERRRRRRR!
Well, I can say I like your makeup tutorials. But I don’t know about this one… I think you wear waaaaay too much makeup. It doesn’t look that good once you showed me all the layers on your face. Wearing a lot of makeup makes a girl seem likes shes not confident in herself, you should try wearing less makeup.
But I do like most of your tutorials, I just don’t think anyone really spends this much time doing their makeup in the morning.
-Cailyn
You don’t have to do all those steps- it’s just an option. For me, I like full coverage as I have quite a bit of redness and dark circles- when I get done with the face, it does look pretty natural esp. after I spray on the fix plus as it smooths everything out. I will admit that I have too much blush here, once I looked at the tape afterwards…
And, I do have quite a bit of confidence- much more than I used to. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be showing my bare face for all to see on youtube
hi, i loveeeeeee ur tutorial. I just have one question. where can I go to find the perfect foundation for my skin tone? Can I go to sephora?
sephora is probably a good starting point- either that or a MAC counter. They will be able to match you for the right color and the type of skin you have (oily, dry, combo, etc…)
thank you soooooooooooooooo much. you’re the best
Marlena, thank you so much for your tutorials! They are really helpful and interesting, so I am always looking forward for a new one! XOXO
Karina
you should do something like this for guys if you can. like maybe have a friend of yours come on your show and have you do their makeup to give them great-looking skin like yours but in a male version. if you could do this it would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Hi Brian
I’ll have to see if I can get my husband “on screen”
*shhh*, but he could use a facial about now
ohhh okay that would be great! =] ill be sure to watch for it
hi marlena, i have another question, sorry. can you please tell me the name of a good foundation that you think works good. Also, what you please tell me if mineral powder foundation is better or liquid foundation? thanks
soryyyyyyyy 1 more question. Does Covergirl true blend liquid foundation work well for you?
Hey! I’ve watched a few of your videos on youtube and got linked here, hehehe. I’ve grown a bit of a make up addiction lately and I love your blending techniques! I think your video was the one that made me purchase MAC’s fix+ and I LOVE IT. I’ve always wanted that glowy, dewy skin and I think that pretty much tops it off.
I generally don’t wear a lot of make up, but when I do, I want it to look right and I definitely have application that’s similar to yours, albeit I skip the contouring part, and lately the blushing since I find it that it’s useless when I’m tan! Anyway, have you used tinted moisturizers? I found that now that my skin is pretty even, I can apply a bit of concealer, put the tinted moisturizer or one of those tinted sunscreens, top it with finishing powder then the mac’s fix+ and it pretty much comes out looking perfect, and without the heavy feeling of a liquid foundation! (I use liquid too).
Ok, I’m kinda rambling on, but I just wanted to say that your tutorials have been helpful in improving my techniques
Hey great video…….i agree with brian, you really should do a video like this for guys
I am totally envious of your makeup techniques!! I am a fair skinned redhead and would love to pull off the dramatic eye looks that you do but I just end up looking like I’m trying to rock the “heroin-chic” look of the 90′s! I am loving the Mac fix+ tip and am going to go buy some of it today. I have been seeing a lot of “white eye” looks lately in magazines and such and would love it if you would do a tutorial on that. Love the site. Keep on keepin’ on girl!
I am looking for an alternative to Bobbi Browns Shimmerbrick in Gold. I can’t find it anywhere. Any suggestions??
How long does it take to do your mkae up every morning lol! but you do mkaeup great i lovee it =]
Your makeup looks great on you
But I have a question is this an everyday look because it looks kind of heavy on the face and plus I live in FLORIDA so its like always hott and I wouldn’t want my makeup to run.
And another thing you look so pretty and you don’t look bad without makeup and your nose is not pudgy lol. But thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Jasmine
It is somewhat of a heavy look- I use it because my face is dry and I live in MIchigan, so the hot weather isn’t usually a problem. What I would do for you is skip the liquid foundation and use the minerals- it’s lighter on the face and isn’t too heavy. Everything else I would do though
It usually takes me 15 minutes to do a full face- I’ve done it so long that it’s down to a science now
Of course, it takes me a bit longer to do more detailed eye makeup or when I do videos as I stop to explain…
This is so great. I’ve learned a lot. thank you for sharing this with the world!!
Hi Marlena,
I just want to thank you, I love the site and everything that comes with it. I ‘m using make up for al long time, but I never wasn’t really happy with the result. I began to be a little bit frustrated, and thought make up isn’t something for me. Then I began to spend my time on my computer with surfing and discovered You tube , first it was only for music video and after a while I discovered that there was much more than only music. First I tried suggestions from other people, and then I found your site. And there were the missing things I didn’t know. Especially the videos on the basic stuff like contouring and foundation. Even my husband says that it is much better than before and he like it. And that’s a I sing for me, normally he only notices something when it’s about a computer. He is a computer geek.
Please keep doing the things you do, because I love to learn from you and it really helped me to give me more self-confidence. I know it’s sounds stupid but it’s the naked truth.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with every one of us.
Greets from Belgium
Sorry for my English, I just started to learn that in evening school.
hi,
i just had to reply i thought your video was great.i think your beautiful.i read Cailyn comment about u not being confident.omg! u showed your fave without any makeup to the world, i don’t know if id do it.the video was really helpfull,i always wanted to know about green concelor.thax a bunch
heyyy
thax for the video- was really helpful.
was just wondering what you use on your face eveyday, because you have no impurities and you wear makeup but your skin is still perfect.!!!
whenever i wear makeup i come up with spots after a few days. . what am i doing wrong. . ?!
Hey Marlena,
I LOVE that you showed that you mix two different liquid foundations to match your skin perfectly. I tan a lot so my skin during winter and summer are shades away from each other. So I just have one foundation for winter, one for summer. Of course, while the tan is fading or when it’s slowly coming on, it’s a bit of a waste to buy even more bottles of liquid foundation for those shades too because it’s such a short period of time that my skin is kind of in that “grey” area. So during those days I tend to feel discouraged to put foundation on. Would rather go au naturel than have my face look foreign compared to the rest of my body. So of course I’m just gonna do what you did, mix my summer and winter shades! Thank you sooo much for posting this video. If only I was clever enough to have thought of that. ;P
I’ve seen several of your tutorials by the way, and I love them all. Will definitely watch the rest of them when I have the time again.
Thanks again for your advice!
PS. Totally going out to buy the fix+ soon and that stippling brush too! Loved that tip!
Hey again Marlena
Quick question, would any other soft brush work in place of the stippling brush? I’m not too happy with how pricey they are in mac and sephora, and I read quite a few bad reviews about the one from coastal scents. Could a soft blush brush work at all?
Great tutorial. I love your Fix + trick. I’ll have to try that today.
Hey Marlena, I found this site about a month a go and i am constantly been coming back, I absolutly love this site because it was exactlty what i was looking for, something that really showed me what i needed to do, thanks so much for all that you have done to make sure everyone looks as gorgeous as you!!
thanks again
Hey Marlena, I just gotta say “thank you so much” for your makeup tips! I have serious redness as well from acne and it’s killing me! I can’t even put blush or contouring stuff, b/c it will exaggerate more… I wish someday, I can put on some blush! And that will be my one happy day! But anyways, I just wanted to tell you that you look beautiful and your hubby is one lucky guy!!!! =) Have a wonderful one!
help!!!
so.. i notice that my foundation smudges really really bad.. ive tried both using mac foundation in fix fluid.. and the mineralized one.. i do the same steps you do marlena.. with BE and all and fix +. i work for a dermatologist office and answers the phone quite often, and i just notice that my make up just smudges everywhere!!!! HELP!!!! any advice?
oh.. and my skin is tan! thanks a lot!
Rika
Rika,
Are you oily, dry, or combo skin? So, you’re using the BE foundation or mineral veil to set the foundation? It sounds like you either need more powder over the foundation, or may want to switch to mineral foundation instead of liquid if you have more oily skin- it will help soak up that oil.
Another option would be to apply an oil mattifier under your foundation to keep the foundation on longer…
Emily,
What I would do if you have redness from acne is to apply a green based concealer underneath any foundation you may put on- you’d be surprised at how well it counteracts the redness
Also, start out by wearing peach blushes instead of pinks- it won’t bring out the redness as much
Just wondering if you’d ever considered wearing a primer to help protect your skin from foundation and make it last longer?
Also wouldn’t it be best to apply concealer after foundation? Not only would you be brushing away, and therefore wasting, some concealer once putting the foundation on top, but without foundation most of us would probably want to conceal 50% of our face, however, after applying foundation you’d find there are a lot less areas than we originally thought that actually need concealer. Especially if you like a foundation with a heavier coverage.
So are you a makeup artist, or have you just been lucky to pick up tricks along the way?
Hello Marlena
Thank you so much for very wonderful tip of make up.

Wow I cant believe anyone would have anything negative to say about the amt of makeup you wear. I think it looks amazing and could not look better. I just started this youtube fascination this week and was noticing that some of the other ladies doing this do a great job with their eyes but their faces are not looking smooth. Yours looks awesome and I so appreciate you opening up and sharing your bare face. I have always had really dry skin but I just went off the “pill”and ever since my face is sooo oily. Do you have any ideas for what I can do to help this? I have been using a clinique product to help matte out my skin before foundation but I still feel like I need something more. I spend tons of time on my makeup EVERYDAY so for any of you nay sayers out there that say it cant be done everyday IM here to tell you it can be done. Keep up the good work Marlena, I am a complete and total addict to this website and its just been a few days.
love you site cant stop learnig on how to apply makeup but i still have no clue what kind of stylefits me or what colors to choose and most improtant of all what number/color/brand of foudation to choose i think i need more help i have no sisters and all my close friends are old school you know darker lip liner and very heavy mascara i need a look that says your hip but in my age and life style group
can the makeup forever #1 be used for someone w/ a med color skin? I have alot of red and need some for under eye area. Thanks Marlena
cool it works for me
Hi Marlena,
This tutorial is great! I had a question though, is the shader brush you use in this video for applying the camouflage palette the same kind of shader brush you use for your eye make up?
If so, what is it called?
If not, what kind would I use for my eyes? For the face pallette?
Thanks a bunch!
One more question sorry, the pink coastal scents kabuki brush is out of stock, is there another brush comparable to it that I could use?
What about the bare escentuals full coverage kabuki, is that the same or is it too much coverage?
what number of foundation are you using?
in my country there is a huge problem with getting mac so i decided that i will get it in on webside… but i’m not sure if the peactures of colors are exactly the same on webside and in thereal life…..
i have to decide and i don’t konw what to choose…. ;/

A LOT cheaper!
I want to know how to make my eyes look bigger. I have this problem with eyelashes, they make my eyes look really really small. could you please give me some tips
Hello Marlena,
Could you tell me how many brushes did you use? What are they? Which brush did you use with which products?
Thanks,
Lauren
MAC Fix+ Spray is $17, but it’s a pretty big bottle… I really recommend it.
Hey Marlena, I just wanted to say thank you! I’m always trying to improve my makeup skills and this video totally helped. The only question i have is, my makeup tends to cake up and get thick around where i use my concealer(around my mouth, under eyes etc.) is there anyway to prevent that? It gives me a really uneven look and i look almost sickly. Could it be my concealer?(I use Mary Kay ivory 2 which is a liquid and my foundation is Mary Kay mineral) I have dry skin also so do you think it would be a good idea to try liquid foundation? Thank you so much! I really appreciate it
OMG. this is soooo pretty. but id really LOVE to see you do the ‘ Sarah Michelle Gellar’ school look with this video. like you putting on your makeup from start to finish.
btw i was just wondering how much ALL of the makeup items u used in this video costs?
