MUG Stiff Dome Brush

$7.99
This works great as a dupe of MAC's 217 Brush. (it is a bit more tapered than the MAC 217, however) It's perfect for creating a smokey eye. It is one of Marlena's favorite brushes!

Made from Goat hair.

  • First try!

Review by Megan on May 1, 2012

I loved it on my first use today. I haven't tried a MAC 217, so I have nothing to compare it to. I just know it's a lot darn better than some of my other crease and blending brushes, so I will definitely be putting it to use daily. Mine isn't rough at all...what on earth are you people doing with this brush that it's causing pain?? Yes, the bristles are dense and stiff, but mine is super soft. We'll see how it holds up to washing!

  • What you pay for is what you get.

Review by GMG on March 16, 2012

I originally bought this thinking that it would be better than MACs 217. Well, i was wrong. I ended up buying the 217 anyways, because this one was so rough.
I think it is a good brush, if you dont want to break the bank. However, take into account that it is not a replacement for the 217. When it comes to this brush, you really have to pay for the quality.
  • It sheds

Review by Mariana on March 6, 2012

After washing, it kept sheding. The courious thing is that those are small fibers, not the complete hair. Also, it's too rough.
Not really close to the MAC 217, it's flatter, rougher, pointed and sheds.

** Edit from Makeup Geek Staff: Hi Mariana -- if you have a brush that sheds, please contact our customer service and we will replace it for you -- either respond to your order email or contact us here http://www.makeupgeek.com/contact-makeup-geek/
    Thanks!

  • Excellent MAC 217 Alternative!

Review by Julie on November 10, 2011

I'm in agreement that this is a great, cheaper alternative to the MAC 217. It may not be an exact dupe, but it does the job for sure.

I'd recommend this one in a heartbeat.
  • NOT a 217 dupe! Ok brush

    Review by Tygerlilee84 on November 8, 2011

OK, you guys are all nuts. This is not a dupe for the MAC 217. It might look like it, but it's much flatter which gives it a different purpose. Being flat makes it harder to blend in the crease. It will blend but you have to use a different technique. It's also not as soft as the MAC brush. Enough with my rant.
To review this brush for itself, I like to use it for applying paint pots/cream eyeshadows because it is flat and a little fluffy. Being flat makes it easier to put it where I want, and fluffy allows me to apply a thin layer. I do not like to use it for blending into the crease; because it is flat it makes it a weird shape. Overall, it's ok if you are on a budget. Otherwise, I'd say skip it.
  • must have brush

Review by KAYE MUA on September 15, 2011

This is a complete dupe for the MACs 217 brush. I mean for less than 10 bucks you can get the same function as the pricey mac brush. I own a mac 217 and when i received this, omg! its really the same. it works really well, and I am planning to get another of this one. So for you MUGees out there, this brush is a must have!
  • It's really a 217 dupe!

    Review by citygirl123 on August 5, 2011

I just got this brush today and I'm so happy with it! I know that Sigma has a MAC 217 dupe, too, and it's only a couple of bucks more than the MUG one, but I would much rather support the MUG site, especially because shipping was SO fast and very inexpensive (I also ordered two other items from the MUG site).

This brush is really high quality and is the exact same shape as the 217. I have a MAC 217 and wanted a few more because sometimes I just need some extra clean ones on hand for blending but I really didn't want to pay the full price for them (I'm not a MUA). I held this brush up to the 217 and it's really exactly the same. The only difference I could see was the 217 was every so slightly (like, a millimeter) wider, but as far as height and the shape, it was exactly the same.

Such a great deal! Thanks so much to the MUG team and Marlena for creating such wonderful brushes! I own a few other MUG brushes and they're all really high quality.
  • Pretty much the perfect dupe for the 217

Review by HeySharon on July 31, 2011

It's only on very close inspection you'll see any difference in shape of the brush, though it is very only slight. Blends beautifully. Sheds slightly, but that is to be expected.
    Best 217 dupe so far!
