Very pigmented but a little dusty
Review by Sandra on May 9, 2012
I love all of the matte MUG shadows I have & this one is no exception. I do notice, however, that this one is quite a bit dustier than the other MUG mattes. Which means I need to use more product, even with a very good primer or base. It's still a very nice shade, though, and one I use a lot. It leans more pink on my medium skin tone, doesn't look quite as brown as the swatch. Works great for blending out harsh edges or as a base under shimmery colors I want to tone down a bit. I'd definitely recommend this MUG eyeshadow as a great basic matte for anybody.

Great quality
Review by Luiza on April 27, 2012
I really like these eyeshadows! This one is a beautiful purple color, in person it looks different from the swatches, for me. I don't really see brown in it, but I still like it.
I read that somebody said they didn't know a dupe for it, but I have a L'oreal quad (summer dusk 508) and the 4th shadow on this quad looks really similar and it's also matte. (But the MUG one lasts longer and looks more pigmented once you put it on your eyes).

Gorgeous and unique
Review by Alice on April 16, 2012
I was kind of underwhelmed when I first tried out this colour as I couldn't figure out how to wear it. Once I started experimenting, though, I realised what a gorgeous colour this is! I haven't seen a dupe for it anywhere. It reminds me of collared doves--very soft, pinky-grey. It goes well with browns, greys, purples, pinks, and probably more combinations that I haven't tried yet. One of my favourite MUG shadows!

Interesting neutral with subtle color
Review by jujubean758 on January 30, 2012
I agree with previous reviews that this is a neutral color with a hint of color. I've used it to blend out a deep eggplant on my outer v into my crease, and also to blend out a smokey eye as Marlena did in her classic smoky eye tutorial. Nice alternative to using browns or more neutral colors for blending.

Unexpected....Understatement
Review by Leslie on January 26, 2012
I expected a soft purple, but got such a rich pinky/brown color that calling it "Unexpected" was a big "understatement". This blends well with every brown, pink, purple...etc.

Natural Colour
Review by Jazmin on January 22, 2012
This shadow is beautiful, it brings a small amount of colour to the eye, without being too bold due to using colours. It's extremely versatile and the shadow itself is smooth and creamy - love it!

Unique color
Review by JJ on January 18, 2012
This color is very smooth and pigmented, not chalky and all. However I have to be careful with this color because it can me look very bruised, which is not a look I tend to go for. I have very cool undertones but even when this is swatched on my hand it still looks like a bruise on my skin, something to keep in mind if you are very pale with cool undertones

My new favorite!
Review by Stephanie86NL on January 11, 2012
This is such a unique matte eyeshadow! I love that is very pigmented, and that is neutral even though its a color. This is my favorite out of the 8 eyeshadows from the starterkit. I will definitely order more MUG shadows in the near future!

Matte version of MUG Twilight
Review by Susan on December 26, 2011
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE these eye shadows! They are so smooth and richly colored. They also blend like a dream! Unexpected is like the matte version of Twilight. A lovely, dusty purple. While it is matte, it's not the least bit chalky and has a perfect velvet finish.

Similar to MAC's Malt eyeshadow
Review by NerdyLibrarianGirl on December 23, 2011
Love the quality of this eyeshadow. This matte shade is creamy and highly pigmented. Unfortunately, its not a great colour for me (I am very fair with cool pink undertones). Malt is described as a "soft pinkish beige" matte, but gave me that bruised eye look. So did Unexpected. But if you like Malt, this would probably be a great dupe.
