Review: Glitter and Ice Holiday Colour Collection
6 Snowglobe Eyeshadows/Warm
If you’re a new makeup geek and want a fairly neutral palette to start your collection, this one is good. I love the gold color in this as it’s a true gold (not overly yellow or too bronze). This would make a gorgeous evening look using the shimmery silver color with a pop of dark brown. But I’ll admit, I HATE the packaging on these- cool idea, but it looks so cheap! I don’t understand why the snow globe on top is so big and has big cheap glitter in it….
Price: $38
Crushed Metallic Pigment – Wintersky, Dark Moon, White as Snow, Silver Sleet
These metallic pigments are the one thing I would get from this collection- they’re similar to their regular pigments but a little more chunky and richer in color. The Dark Moon color would make a gorgeous metallic dark eye look for a sexy date. I’m not a huge fan of the packaging on these either- the stackable tubs are sort of a pain to get into if you want the bottom color.
Mineralize Eyeshadow – Snow Season, Hold That Pose, Shimmermint
One word: bleh. Too chunky, not much pigmentation, boring colors.
Paint Pot – Let’s Skate!, Morning Frost
These are ok- nothing to write home about. I would use the color “Let’s Skate” for a cheek highlighter and the color “Morning Frost” for a quick daytime neutral eye, but these really aren’t that unique to me. Not bad, but nothing special.
Technakohl Eyeliner – Practice Makes Perfect, Seasonally Spicy, Silver Skates
These eyeliners are great quality in that they’re pigmented, glide easily, and stay on fairly well. The color “Practice Makes Perfect” is a beautiful teal color that would look great on everyone, and the “Seasonally Spicy” is a nice bronze-brown color for the day. ”Silver Skates” is just boring and doesn’t show up well at all.
Glaze Lipstick – Such Flare, Eloquent Air
WHY on earth would MAC think a glittery silver lipstick would be pretty? I put this on and looked like I had greasy food left over on my lips- not a pretty look
The color “Such Flare” is a nice red color that would be great for the holidays if you don’t already have a good red lipstick. It’s pretty much identical to “Ruby Woo” but not as matte looking.
Dazzleglass Lip Gloss – She-zam, Love Alert
Again, silver lipgloss? Looks great in the package; not so much on the lips. The color “Love Alert” is a nice pink tinted red lipgloss with a bit of sparkle for a pop. I’m not a huge fan of glossy red lips, so I’m passing on this one also…

Where to Buy
I’m sorry to be so negative on this review as I love MAC products, but this Glitter and Ice collection is a big fail. Sorry MAC! (I still love your other products though
)

Did you purchase them all? Or were they sent from MAC PR?
When I saw the collection I was disappointed as well
but the Teal liner is definitely worth it
swatches, please!
Your review couldn’t be more on! What is going on with MAC. They haven’t wowed me in so long.
I think they’re finding that some people fall for their new collections every 2 seconds gig and that’s just how they make more money. It’s all about selling collection by collection, producing more and more products that consumers “thnk” they need when in reality they probably have the same colors, just different names. MAC keeps doing it and that’s why their collections are not well thought out anymore.
I had the same reaction when I swatched in-store: boring collection. I’m saving my moolah for other brands’ holiday collection…
I feel the same way exactly! I’m so over MAC. The only collection I’ve actually enjoyed from them in the last year was ‘Wonder Woman’ – other than that every thing else has been nearly dreadful. I swear their quality has gone right down.
I was disappointed too…
I was super disappointed too,I got a face powder as well which has absolutley no pigmentation what so ever, such a waste of money.
You can always take it back if it doesn’t work for you
i LOOOOOVE MAC and am at the counter probably once a week….i wasnt extremely impressed with the line as a whole but i did get the smokey berry pigments and the palette with the purple eye shadows which are mostly regular colors i think and OMG i LOVE them…the pigments are great smokey holiday colors, you can see what i did with them on my facebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001023733174 ….i also purchased the pink lip glass and creme sheen ornament and the other day we went on a day trip and i used nude lip liner and put on the light pink creme sheen and i must say my lips looked super cute
if you guys want to see what the pigments look like on you can look at my FB…since they are a little chunkier i found it easier to press them on my lid with my finger tip and then blend blend blend….hope this was useful!!!
I have one of the other palettes, the one with the more burgundy colours in it and I love it, the colours are gorgeous. I also have the silver gloss which looks really great over other colours, just gives a hint of sparkle, great for evenings.
Could you please show us swatches?
Well, saves me lots of money
I bought the Berry Ornament pigment stacker… I thought the red was actually quite pretty. But then I got home, and was putting my new purchase away, and thought to compare the new stacker to the Summer Stash one I bought about 6 months ago… almost EXACTLY the same. The only difference is the red is more warm than cool in this latest one. I’m not sure it was worth the money I spent (Mac is pretty expensive in Canada) just to have one out of the four that’s truly different… As for the rest of the line, I was thinking about the paint pots, but now that I’ve read your reviews, I’m not so sure I want to commit! Thanks, Marlena!
I think the reason you may be disappointed is because you are not using the products properly. For instance if you wear such flare and use a lip brush to apply the frosted lip over it or apply the frosted icy lip color with the dazzleglass spanking rich on top of it you will see the beautiful effect it has. Also the mineralized shadow applys using a wet technique have a beaitiful frosted color payoff. Just some suggestions from my personal use
So sad you have so much negativity on these products. I have to completley disagree with you. I loved everything you reviewed as I have them all, and I love the packaging snow globe and all!!
I don’t know if it’s just me but I enjoy the packaging! I think it’s sooo cute!
Also my mom bought the silver lipstick, the silver eye pencil and the silver dazzle glass (I was like mom this is too much silvery things!) but I LOVE the way the dazzle glass looks on top of cool toned lipsticks! Didn’t see how the lipstick shows on the lips yet.. and I thought that yeah the pencil was kinda less pigmented…
B
ut seriously I’m positive about the collection over all! We bought 2 mineral eyeshadows and we were not disappointed at all… I personally prefer the use of them WET (with Fix+ or mixing medium) so their pigmentation is more on the frosty side. And I bought the biggest kit (with face eyes and lips products) and I’m really happy with it too!
Everybody seems to hate this collection but seriously for me and my mom we are satisfied of what we got from this collection !
Hi Anne,
Don’t worry you’re not alone!!!! I LOVE a lot of this collection too. So far, I have a couple of the lipsticks, a couple of paint pots, a dazzlegalss (all of which I LOVE) and I’m planning on getting one of the kits and definitely one of the pigment “quads”.
I say, “to each his/her own” AND this year it looks like MAC won’t run of their holiday stuff!!! YAY for us : )
I was not impressed either, so I decided to stop by my OCC store and see if they had the Venemous villains and they did. I rather get extras of those…I may get the Paint pods just because I love them in general.
I feel the same about the packaging; I don’t like it at all. I am drawn to the snowglobe eyeshadows though… minus the snowglobes.
I only got the Sultry Lip Bag, and it is gorgeus! Really worth the money! But the rest was nothing for me..
I have to say I have been quite disappointed with a few of the latest collections from mac and with this one I feel like it’s hit a new level of disappointment. I just got the brush set with the duo fiber brushes, the brush heads seem really good but the handles look cheap and the packaging is horrid. I’ve thrown the clear brush pouch away as it looked so so cheap. Think I’ll save some pennies and wait for the other collections.
I completely agree with your thoughts on this collection! Bust on the paint pots. Thank you for sharing an honest review of these products. I HATE when you can tell a reviewer is not wild on any of the products but they still say positive things its so lame. Love Mac but don’t waste your money on these for anyone they look cheap the colors are chinsey and they will go unused.
This is such a huge collection it wouldnt been nice for Marlena to review more of it and take the time to make a video and swatches. I agree with Marlena’s reviews on some of the products from the collection but she didnt get many other items that I thought were really nice.
I havent had a lot of time to review the collection but I did purchase the stack pigments (the berry and plum) and both of them are amazing, I love the consistency, the price (you get 12 g of pigments for $32.50, thats 3g of each color, vs 4.5g for $20) and I dont mind the packaging, if anything I like that I can stack them for easy storage. I also LOVE the blue and black from the blue stacks but I have some simlar pigment colors so I didnt get that one (even though i really wanted to!)
Also the other paint pot called “for effect” Marlena didnt have on her review is sooo pretty (its a gray with silver sparkle) perfect for a everyday or even dramatic smokey eye. It reminds me of the one from the posh paradise collection (genuine treasure) except the color is different and I thought the consistency of this one was better. The lip bag in sultry is so pretty even though the colors are not very unique. The other thing I got was the snowglobe nail polishes, they are awesome! especially the gold one.
I will suggest everyone to check out the collection just in case, you might have things similar but especially if you like the consistency of the stack pigments you need tho check those out! Hope that helps.
I was in my local mall one day where they were doing make overs. I bought the Mineralize Eyeshadow – Snow Season, Hold That Pose, Shimmermint & matching paint pot. The look was good in the lighting they had but as soon as I got home I realized it was way too frosty for my liking so I ended up going back the MAC store and exchanging it for something else. I liked last year’s Christmas collection better.
how can you be so negative about mac products marlena??? are you out of your mind??? may be this time you were not sponsored by them which made you be so negative…..BTW , do u think your eyeshadows can compete with mac ?? i willl see the reviews…….you are so oo over-confident!!!
well, good luck………
becky,
Your post was really rude. Just because you disagree with Marlena doesn’t mean you can’t be civil.
I bought hold that pose and shimmermint eyeshadow, applied with fix plus and I love them. I have received so many compliments on them. I also bought the Eloquent Air, the silver lipstick and the silver dazzleglass. I was worried how it would look on, but when applied with plum lipliner it gives it such a beautiful look. I am quite happy with my purchases
I really disagree with you on the mineralise eyeshadows. I tried them at the MAC counter and I adored them, especially the Shimmermint, I haven’t seen an eyeshadow like it. Maybe that’s just me though…
I tried the Double Spin lipstick from this collection with She-zam over the top and absolutely loved it! Maybe She-zam just needs to be placed over the right lipstick to get a good outcome?
