Fall Fashion Haul!
Yes, Fall is officially here and every girl (or guy) needs a few things to prepare for this time of year! I’ve included my top things to have on hand to be stylish yet comfortable for this Fall Season.
Boots
Everyone needs a great pair of sexy yet comfortable boots. I’ll admit I’m not much of a boot girl (we California girls love our sandals and flip flops) BUT, I love these brown boots in that they are simple and stylish, yet don’t kill my feet.
Mossimo Keeley Heeled Boots – Brown
- Price: $29.99

Accessories
I am undeniably an accessory junkie. I’m willing to admit that I have more jewelry than any 5 people should own, but since I keep my clothes simple, it’s a great way to spice up my outfit. The best accessories I think for fall are scarves, hats, and chunky jewelry. I’m really loving the “schloopy” hats (I have no idea what the heck those hats are called- haha) and colorful scarves. I’m also loving a simple but chunky gold ring, big earrings, or a bold necklace (not to be worn all together though- yikes.)
Pink Flower Scarf

- Where to Buy: H&M or Charlotte Russe
- Price: $6.50
- Where to Buy: Forever 21 . Amazon

Clothes
I’m by NO means a fashionista. Hence the name “MAKEUP geek” – not clothes geek. But I can still appreciate some cute blazers, sweater dresses, and jackets for the Fall. I’m really loving that camel color right now- it’s a nice neutral but not as dull as the ordinary brown. It’s like neutral with a kick! I’ve been pairing up a patterned top with a blazer and some jeans. Cute cute!
Camel Jacket

Perfume
Since I want some variety in my life, fall is a great time to make an excuse to buy a new perfume. When I think fall, I think a bit more musky but since I’m a sweet girl (aww…
) I found something that was a good compromise- sweet with a hint of musk.
Kate Spade “Twirl”
Hair Color
If you’ve been dying (no pun intended- haha) to try a new hair color, Fall is the perfect time! If it doesn’t turn out, you can always throw on a hat
No seriously, it’s a great time to deepen you hair color- maybe go with a deep auburn, or a warm red or plum, or just add lowlights for some extra dimension.
You all ask quite a bit about my hair color- I change it fairly frequently, but for Fall I’m going with a deep plum color with pops of strawberry blond as highlights. If you do decide to dye your hair, I really recommend going demi permanent as it will wash out after a couple months. It’s not as harsh on your hair, and won’t be as difficult to change if you decide you don’t like it.
Color Brilliance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Color ’3RV’
- Price: $4.99

Makeup
Ladies and Gentleman, we have the best category of all: the makeup. (drumroll please)
For Fall makeup, it’s all about metallic eyes and berry lips. I love a deep bronze or gold colored lid with a soft peach cheek and a berry stained lip. Going neutral colors with the eyes and playing up the lips is uber sexy for Fall- if you don’t feel comfortable wearing a dark lipstick, just apply a sheer berry colored lipgloss.
Too Faced Natural Eye Palette
NARS Lipgloss – ‘Rose Gitane’
NARS Lipstick – ‘Scarlet Empress’

Great Haul =) The colour of the Nars Lipstick is perfect for fall <3

This video was so great!
Definatly makes me want to take a trip to Target.
Love the hair info! I gotta look into that demi permeant color.
Can you recommend a good sheer berry gloss (hopefully cheaper than NARS)? I’m not a big lipstick girl but when I wear dark glosses they sometimes look messy because my lip line is kinda blurry (not well-defined, if that makes sense)
MAC had a tinted lipglass years ago that I loved that’s since been discontinued called Bizaarish that was sort of a dark red/plum colour. I think Love Child, Pop Mode, or Plum Fun from the current permanent range are fairly close to it.
If you want something even less expensive than that, maybe NYX Vixen or Maroon? (Garnet may even work, too.)
Pop Mode by MAC is really nice!! I have light skin and brown hair with a touch of natural red and Pop Mode is perfect on me when I want something dark. I pair it with the Plum or Plum soft lipliner also by MAC. Good call Shelly =)
For on-trend lipsticks, etc., Avon is my go-to source because they’re a good value. Once I’m wearing it, not a soul can tell what brand it is or how much it cost. If the product is good, it’s all about the application after that. Avon doesn’t have the “prestige” the high-dollar lines have, but it is a high performer. Switched from Mary Kay and Merle Norman to Avon. That says something.
Love the tutorial,I think it’s a great idea you do this kind of videos more often,!!By the way what eyeshadows are you using in the video? Thanks!!
Looks like a bronze or gold on the lid and a black in the outer corner. (If you have the Naked Palette from Urban Decay, try Half Baked on the lid, with Creep in the outer corner. If you’re not a gold fan, Sin will work just as well on the lid, IMO.)
Is your trip to Paris just for vacation or work related? Have fun!
Great stuff you got there.
I must say; I’ve had my eye on the nail polish for a little while. Gorgeous colour.
Nice video
What lipcolor would you recommend to get that nice matte red shade in the second fall makeup photo?
Hey Makeup Geek, I’m a huge fan. As a professional hairstylist I want to strongly urge people not to color their own hair at home. Especially if you are super blonde from the summer and decide to go auburn for the fall or some other drastic change. Inevitably you will end up spending at least $20 on hair color, and that’s if it turns out perfectly. Not to mention the color on either your clothes, walls or shower curtain. If results don’t turn out as expected you will spend even more trying to fix it, and if it turns out well it may fade faster then you desire. Do some research at your local salons. Like my salon, you can usually find an entry level stylist with significantly lower prices, and still get great results and piece of mind. If you do decide to color at home, make sure to do a strand test so you know what to expect. Good luck, and be adventurous, Fall 2011 is all about going RED!
Love the haul! Could anyone suggest a cheaper alternative berry lipstick for fall? I love the nyx lip glosses, but not so much their lip sticks.
Thanks!
i like your fashion videos please more of them, thats something different from your side, very interesting.
Hi!
I’ve been watching your videos since only a week and this is my first comment but…
I just wanted to warn you… if you go to Paris in January, the scarf will be perfect for indoors.. BUT you need to buy a big warm scarf for outside !! Paris in January is really cold !!!
Thanks for your videos! You really explain things perfectly and you’re smile and good mood really makes it easy and pleasant to watch them !!
Listening to you Marlena in what you like is like watching myself in a mirror!!! lol lol No wonder why I love your video’s !!!! I loved this Haul!!! Three thumbs up for this one doll!!! Thanks so much for doing this!! It would be nice to maybe see tutorials on a whole look from time to time… From hair style to make-up to clothes and accessories!! Sometimes I see people with great make-up but don’t know how to really coordinate clothing style with it!!! Those would be sooo neat to see!!! Thanks so much!! xoxox
A good cheap dupe for the polish she shows in the video is N.Y.C. fast drying polish in Park Avenue. I just picked it up at Walmart for $1.79 & it’s such a gorgeous neutral shade that it goes with everything! =)
Oh & it’s also the only polish i’ve ever had stay on my nails for more than a day without chipping & that was WITHOUT a top coat!
Marlena, do you color your own hair?
So I didn’t have access to the video before and was just reading the info. Just watched it and answered my question. Thanks!
We need more fashion videos. I am one of your fans. You should do more fashion videos casual day, sporty look, classy, to go out in a date or a look for the night. I just suggest because your website rocks. All the time I get ready to buy a foundation or any makeup I go in your website to see the ones you recommed. You are the best. I love your website.
Hey Marlena (and anyone else), I have a question. Thanks to you, I use Revlon Colorstay dry foundation. I really do like it, but sometimes I wish it was a little thinner or less matte (more of a “satin” or skin-like finish) so my face would look a little more radiant. However, I don’t want a light-coverage, shimmery foundation either- and I won’t use something with less coverage than Revlon Colorstay. Could you help me out? Would Maybelline Dream Mousse or Superstay work?
P.S. What drugstore lipsticks and lipglosses have good berry and dark red colors?
P.P.S. I love the word “schloopy”!
Sorry for all the questions!
You could always mix the Colorstay with a more sheer foundation to get less of a matte finish… I mix mine with Sephora Perfecting cover (which I’m told is similar to MUFE’s HD finish/coverage) quite often and I like the way it turns out… Check out the video Marlena did about customizing your foundation!
I love your videos!!!
Great haul video! Too bad it’s not fall over here; we’re already in summer!
hey marlena…you look soooooo beautiful in this video…WOW!
MARLENA!!!!!! :3
Very sweet color.
I love your boots! I’m a total boots girl. I love boots & heels!
Anyway… i love the Sephora grey nail polish also
And i can NEVER dye my hair blonde or bleach it AT ALL. My hairs naturally dark brown, and since i’ve dyed it 6 times PERMANENT black :’( …… It’s still ruined it sorta of, because my hair isnt the natural true color anymore.. it has little hints of black. Permanent dye makes me sad too :’(
I want my natural hair back!!!!
Anyway, i’ve thought of getting extensions in but i’m not soo sure!
p.s YOUR GORGEOUS!
Hey Marlena – can you tell me what the lipstick is you are wearing in this vid? I absolutely love it and have been looking for a colour just like it. Thanks!
OOPS! I just realised I posted to the wrong video – I meant the lipstick you wore on your “Huge News” video!
Marlena, what is the name of the hair extension you have? Is it a procedure that requires a certified tech? Where can I learn more about how to get them in my area?
Great vid Marlena
I definitely agree with your choices in fall fashion. I have a weakness for boots and great jackets.
I just wanted to say that the Naked Palette by Urban Decay has been my go-to for every fall look I’ve needed so far. I love how many different looks for so many occasions you can get out of it that really embrace the earthy, rich tones that are so pretty in fall
I’d recommend it to anyone (if you can get your hands on one, stores quickly run out of stock).
Also, if you are heading to Paris in January, I definitely agree with Carolina when it comes to getting a much heavier scarf (and even a heavy coat) for your trip. I’m in northern Italy, and I can tell you that it gets really cold here! Don’t want you to freeze!
Have fun in Paris! (you should do a vid in front of the Eiffel Tower
)
Did your hairstylist put in the blonde?
i just bought the sephora pro lesson pallet for green eyes (even though im a very proud blue eyed girl!:) ) and LOVE it!! you should try it!!! Love your tutorials!!! people ask me all the time how i do my make up and i always tell them about you!!
Loved, loved, loved it. Always looking foward for your tutorials. Thanks to you and all I’ve learned with you I did both my daughters makeup for homecoming, they loved it. They had a great time. Thank you Marlena. And the clothes FABULOUS. Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe are some of my favorite stores too. I’ve been following your tutorials for a year and love them. Stay happy and healthy. Thank you for being you.
Love fall as you can get away with more dramatic make up – Love the make up – love the smoky eyes but have not perfected the art of doing these yet.
hello, marlena. i love you and i love this website. it is so fun, encouraging and inspiring to PLAY with make up! woohoo!
quick question – a few years ago i bought the mac “scatter rays solar bits”. i love the pigmented color but i have NO idea how to apply it!! any ideas?
thank you so much – from canada! xoxo
i absolutely LOVE the blazer you bought; i tried it on and the color looked really good on me.. unfortunately it runs sooooo small at forever21 and it’s super tight on my arms. :’( it makes me feel so terrible about myself.
