Review: Urban Decay Vice Palette

Hi Makeup Geeks!

I hope you’re having a great fall so far and are staying warm!  I wanted to review the newest Urban Decay palette as it’s been awhile since I reviewed some of their products :)

This “Vice” palette has 20 eyeshadows in a variety of colors and includes dual ended eye brush.  Unlike their previous cardboard palettes, this one has a sleek plastic case with a mirror inside.  Not sure if I like the packaging better?  It’s nice having a sleek plastic case that is more sturdy than cardboard, but it seems a bit plain.

The eyeshadows are super pigmented (up to UD’s typical standards) and includes 17 shimmery shadows and 3 mattes.  I can tell Urban Decay is trying to include lots of variety, which is great, but it’s still not a complete palette as a couple more blending colors are needed.  My favorite colors are “Blitz”, “Junkie”, and “Muse”.   The only ones that had fallout were “Jagged” and “Provocateur”- they’re a bit chunky with glitter, so they don’t pack on well.

I do LOVE that Urban Decay has all unique shadows for this palette- I don’t see any repeats that I can tell, and the colors truly are beautiful.  I’m planning on doing a look with “blitz”, “unhinged”, and “junkie” for a complete tropical look- will be SO beautiful!

My only complaints with this palette is the packaging is a bit boring compared to Urban Decay’s previous ones, but the quality is still great.  I’d love to see a couple more matte finish blending shadows as it’s hard to put complete looks together with just this palette.

Advantages:

  • Includes a variety of colors
  • Quality of the shadows is great- highly pigmented, smooth, not chalky, and easy to blend
  • Palette case is plastic, so is easy to clean and easy to carry for travel
  • Shadows are cruelty free

Disadvantages:

  • The price is a bit steep compared to other holiday palettes
  • A couple colors have lots of fallout and are too chunky
  • Not enough nude colors for blending
  • Packaging is a bit bland for UD’s standards  (their packaging is the best in the makeup industry, IMO)
I’m a bit torn on this palette- I won’t say to buy it or leave it as it depends on what you’re looking for.  I absolutely love Urban Decay’s products, and their eyeshadows are great quality!  I’m just not a huge fan of this palette as it seems “ho hum” compared to their previous ones, but it’s not a bad palette as there’s lots of variety in colors and texture of them is great.

Price:   $59

Where to Buy:  Sephora,  eBay,  Amazon

Happy makeup shopping!

xoxo,
Marlena

Wow… I love how junkie looks! I really really like the color. I’m not sure if I would buy it though, I think I still need to check the other upcoming holiday palettes

Thanks for these reviews Marlena! I always look forward to your reviews on the holiday collections and hearing your opinions before I start my Christmas shopping.

I bought this palette a few weeks ago & i must say its not my favourite from UD either – if you couldn’t decide between this & another UD palette i would pick the other palette tbh as there is just too much fall out with these ones..

Urban Decay has the best eye shadow in my book! I feel I won’t have enough use for some of the colours in the Vice palette. :(

You what other palette is good for a night out? Too Faced’s The Return of Sexy palette. Super pretty! But it’s definitely hello shimmer!

Marlena – at the beginning of your video review, you mentioned you did a video on the best palettes of 2012 – where is it? I can’t find it! Haha

Thanks. :)

I loves Urban Decay palettes liked I have 2 of Naked palettes. one of my top favorite is oil stick, black eyeshadow, it is really good quality and bold color. I tends to use it as eye liner/smudge either.

I really love this palette, the video quality really doesnt capture the colors, but the swatches are good. After seeing tons of reviews on you tube, I bought it and as makeup junkie I was Haaaapy! There is some fallout issues with a couple colors but so worth the effort of clean-up and carefull application. Not for the faint of heart! Im glad to finally hear your opinion on it Marlena!

I’m must say, I’m a little divided with this palette, too.
I was after a palette that I could use as a sidekick to the UD naked palettes to build up more colorful and elaborate looks, and I’m not entirely sure if this one would sufice. As a person who loves goldens and pinks and plums in makeup, maybe something else would be more ‘usable’? uhm….
