Hi peeps,

Just brought some fairly expensive Clinique foundation. I want the product to last as long as possible so which is the best way to apply? I have either a beauty blender or a small stippling brush at my disposal.

Thanks!!!!

Hey Ella,

Sponges tend to soak up more product then brushes since they are naturally absorbent, but using the beauty blender while it’s damp can help with that problem. Stippling will most likely use less of your foundation since you’re only putting the product on the tips of the bristles. What I usually do is buy a pump for my foundation bottle (if it doesn’t already come with one) and pump out however much I need on a piece of makeup paper or palette, that way I know how much product I’m using. You can buy a pump at M.A.C. but it won’t necessarily fit all foundation bottles. Hope this helps!

I use my fingers most of the time. When I do use a brush or a sponge I apply my primer with the same brush or sponge first. This way the sponge/brush doesn’t soak up as much foundation. Hth.

I use the broken off top of an old eyeshadow quad as a palette. I dispense the product onto the palette, and then dab my stippling brush into the product. I like doing it this way, because after a while you are visually able to see how much is enough, and it leads to less waste over time.

I know you’re concerned about waste, but you may find the foundation applies better with a brush of some sort. Just do some trial and error.

(Also I’d argue that, compared to some other high end foundations, Clinique is generally not that expensive.)

I agree with Shelly- try out a few methods first. If you can apply the foundation flawlessly with your fingers without wasting product, then that’s great! But if you have to waste a little product for the sake of perfect application, it might be worth it.

Thanks guys. I like the idea of using a CD case or quad. I think I saw Kim Kardashians makeup artist doing that method also now I think about it

Personally, from experience, using my fingers have been most effective, and a foundation brush…

Which begs the interesting question foundation brush or stippling brush? I use a stippling brush however, someone did my makeup with a flat foundation brush the other day and the coverage looked lovely.
