Hiya,

So I found out the hard way that I’m allergic to Mac’s prep & prime, & the l’oreal studio secrets primer; I get little red lumps (a bit like heat rash) and dry scaly patches. I should emphasise that I have no problems with mac or l’oreal eyeshadow, liner or mascara, I just have the kind of skin that will react to anything.

Anybody got any tips/recommendations?

Thanks!

My first choice would be the Makep Forever HD MicroPerfecting Primer. I would also recommend the Too Faced Primed & Poreless Smoothing Face Primer. Philosophy also has a really good one especially if you want a matte finish. It’s called the Never Let Them See You Shine. All of these should work well on your sensitive skin as they help keep sensitive skin to a minimium. Hope this helps!:-)

You’re not allergic to the products themselves; you’re allergic to at least one ingredient in them. Have you had an allergy test done?

I agree with Shelly, the only real way to avoid problems in future is to figure out what’s causing the issue in the first place.

Yeah I agree with everyone on this; you need to figure out the problem ingredient and avoid it by reading all ingredients list before trying a new product.

Trying to identify the culprit is definitely the way forward – thank you! Threw away the outer box of packaging of the mac primer, which lists their ingredients, and they don’t list them online. Do think I could go in to a store, explain & ask to photograph the box? Or could I ask the mug community if anyone can scan / photograph / type the ingredients into a post for me?!!! Gave away the l’oreal away, but I could easily go into a store & photograph the label.

Leslie – thanks for the poss alternatives, we dont have too faced in the UK but I’ll try to do a patch test the others instore before buying!

Hadn’t considered allery testing, I think its only really done in the UK if you have serious allergy – I’ve mild (non itchy) eczema on my hands since I was a kid (I’m a sensitive soul all round!) but maybe I should look it to it properly…hmmm…

I agree first step would be to figure out what you are allergic to. With that I will also say maybe before trying a new product all over, maybe test it on a small patch of skin maybe on the inside of your arm or something, so that if you do have a reaction it’s easier to deal with.

Here a website review that lists the ingredients:

http://www.temptalia.com/mac-prep-for-colour-collection-review-photos-swatches

As for specific things to try, I have only tried a few but recently just gave in and tried the Monistat chafing gel and it works great for me. Hope this helps. Good luck.
