Hi everyone! So I wanted to know how everyone feels about makeup brushes and what is in their makeup bags.

Do you prefer to stick with one brand of brushes, and build a collection, or do you buy which ever brushes catch your eye and that you think will work well for you?

Also as a side note, I would love to know if this preferance is personal or professional, as in use on yourself or clients.

I have several brands of brushes (MAC, Louise Young, e.l.f. Studio, e.l.f. Essential, Sonia Kashuk, Sigma, MUG/Crown, EcoTools, Studio Tools (the line sold at Target)). I’m a little bit of a brush junkie, but I try to look for ones that’ll work for me, mostly.

All are used on me, as I’m not a pro, just an enthusiast.

Personally, I used to buy mine from ebay in sets (as im a pauper!)  But did acquire a few mac, 219, 217 and a glitter and ice set which had a SE 129 in it (the set also had a 266 and 275 but i rarely used those)

I intended to mak all my brushes MAC,  however, from watching pixiwoo on youtube, Real Technique brushes have taken over.  They really are such good brushes, i would take the RT blush brush over the 129 anyday. They’re so perfectly soft its unreal!

I also have the MUG outer v and crease brush because how could anyone not have a MUG brush in their collection :)

Most of my brushes are from Sigma, however I am always on the hunt for new brushes. As long as they are good quality and will do the job that I need them too I will purchase them. Definitely not picky. I mostly use my brushes for personal use, but on occasion I will use them on friends/clients.

I thought I was the only one who had around 5 million brushes from different sets. I see a new brush, in a slightly different shape than one I already own and I have to buy it. Even if they say they are for the same use. It’s an addiction, I swear.

@shellygrrl, Which are your favorite of the ones you own?

@sugababe82 Would you recommend the Real Techniques brushes? Ulta is doing a sale soon, I thought I would try one.

I like mac brushes for  eyes and I am really liking my new set of Real Technique brushes for foundation.  Other brushes that I own and use often are Sonia Kashuk and Essence of Beauty.

I’ve fallen in love with my Louise Young ones, and have been plotting out which ones I want next. Just wish they had a US distributor. :(

I have brushes that I bought years ago and never used.  I buy things just to have them because you never know when you will need them.  I sometimes use them to apply different types of makesup, never what they were intended for.   The brands is no longer in circulation, but I do have Sephora brushes, Sonia Kashuk, Signature, and other lesser known brands.

no need to stick to one brand. some brushes are better for certain things. dont feel obligated to use one brand. i use them on myself and for people. most times when a person asks me about a brush i just tell them what the brush actually is and have them find one that they fancy

    hope this helps

All of my brushes are DS brand and I love them. They make make-up application much easier and it looks better too. I have a mixture of ELF, Ecotools, a couple of Manicare ones and my beloved No 7 Eyeshadow Blend and Contour brush. I know so many people are HE exclusive when it comes to brushes but having never tried any, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything.

I primarily use my ELF studio brushes, their mineral brushes were awesome too, but they discontinued them. I don’t know why people poopoo DS brushes!

I have 3 elf studio sets and a a bunch of single elf brushes I picked up at target

I have one mac brush (239)

    1 sonia kashuk angled brush

    1 eco tools kabuki brush

    1 soho smudge brush

I really don’t feel like most HE brushes are worth it. I love my one mac brush, because there’s really no other brush like the 239, but I honestly can’t tell a difference between the others. I bought 3 elf studio brush sets during a sale, I always keep one set clean and ready for clients, and they’re inexpensive enough to replace when the time comes. I’m a huge fan of the elf precision brushes, I think I have 6 total…they are the perfect size for detail work.

I have combinations of brushes. I have mac, mug, e.l.f., sonya keshick (sp), hakuhodo, sephora, robert jones and some I got  when I was in Europe. It’s really up to you and what feels right. Specifically, my contour brushes are from sephora because I really like they balance they have.

Maria: IMO, the Sigma brushes are generally good but not great. My favourite of theirs is the F80 (I use it for foundation). I also like the P82 for concealer. I think with some of the other brushes, you can do better with other brands.

    mtishawt: Sonia Kashuk. ;)
