Yesturday I had a family event, as usual i exfoliated in the shower and moirturised well after. Come to applying my foundation, i was doing everything i would as usual but after my foundation application, i could see peelings of skin/dry skin sitting on my face, this was not pretty and was put off wearing foundation, i washed my face immediately and just applied blusher and did my eyes….. Why did my skin peel after applying foundation-especially after exfoliating and moisurising? it was nasty….. HELP :’(
my registry is in a week and i don’t want a repeat of this…usually it doesnt happen :( should i not exfoliate? were my pores open and thats what caused it?

Did you have any sunburn on your face? It may have been where you exfoliated and excess skin was coming off. You can over exfoliate your skin if your not careful. Make sure to use a good moisturizer and keep doing it. It should be gone in a few days.

I had the same problem. My skin is dry and flakes mostly on my nose. Don’t exfoliate to often, once or twice a week for peeling skin or you’ll just irritate it further. Moisturizer is defiantly key, you might need a richer one. I’ve been using coconut oil as a moisturizer and it works amazingly ( and don’t let the word oil scare you, it hasn’t been clogging my pores at all! ) the main culprit is the foundation. Face lotion will sooth dry skin but for some reason using foundation after just brings the flakes right back.

What worked for me is using a gentle face wash, coconut oil after and only bare minerals as foundations. Powder rather than liquid over the coconut will erase any shine and blend amazingly when applied in circular motions. If you need more help feel free to message me, I literally have had the exact same problem and after switching up my routine my skin is nothing but soft and smooth :)

All skin needs to be exfoliated, even dry skin.  However, dry skin should not be exfoliated more than 1x weekly.  When you exfoliate, you are essentially helping your skin get rid of all the dead cell build up and helping to reveal nice new skin. My best advice to you is to only exfoliate 1x weekly and give yours skin a “break” after you exfolilate.  Meaning no makeup or anything except moisturizer for 24 hours.  Your moisturizer can also act like a mask.  So after you exfoliate, apply you moisturizer a little more heavily and let it absorb into your skin.  If you do your exfoliating at night, give your skin at least 20-30 minutes to absorb the moisturizer before you go to bed. PS, make sure your moisturizer isn’t also an exfoliator.  If you are using a moisturizer for dry skin, you should be ok. HTH.
