Hi All,
I haven’t been on Makeup geek for a long long long long time and probably don’t know me anymore. I used to post photos of myself from my blog.
Since taking professional courses for makeup I have actually ventured out on my own as a Freelance MUA and am enjoying every bit of it. I don’t do it full time currently but is absolutely working towards it.
I though I would share some of the work I have done from my earlier start as an MUA until the very present.
CCs are definitely welcome and if you have time check out my FB Page, Blog and Professional Website.

September 27, 2012 at 11:25 am #192984Hi Melanie!
I get most of my jobs now through networking. So people I’ve worked with recommend me to other people in the same industry.
It’s all about meeting people, working with new people and being professional. When you’re work is good and you’re attitude is professional, people will begin to recommend you to other people they know.
However the work for the Hair Art Studio was something I applied for online. Their usual makeup artist was not available for this shoot and so was trying to find another makeup artist to keep in the contacts. I applied with a short cover letter and a simple resume with my website and contacts. I was told that my work was good and that I applied for the job professional as compared to other makeup artist who just sent in an email stating their interest and nothing else.
I now work with photographers, models, hair studios, wardrobe stylist on a more regular basis. They’re my clients and I’m more interested in photography/editorial work as compared to weddings/formal makeup services. At the beginning of my career I did a lot of unpaid work (TF/TFP/TFCD) where my form of payment was getting photos in return so that I can use them for my portfolio. It definitely takes time and meeting the right people and putting in the effort to know them and dedicate your time to your work, will bring in the better opportunities.
Hope my ramble helped explain how I work in the industry….

November 4, 2012 at 12:00 am #198832Amazing work! I just decided I wanted to go into freelancing as a profession & I’m just so stressed about how to really make a name for myself. I’ve started doing smaller jobs for people I know who keep recommending me to other’s, but I would LOVE to do editorials. Networking is key, huh
November 4, 2012 at 8:44 am #198856Thank you MagicPoint and LexiFresh!
Networking is so important. You’ll meet new talents and the right people you know you can work with. I network like crazy and have found photographers that get me paid gigs.
Hope to share more work in the near future so keep an eye out in the forum for a new post with my new works
