Hello everyone! :D I know most of you are younger (I’m 41) and I have noticed that my skin isn’t as it used to be. LOL I know this happens as we get older especially around my eyes, but I’m not ready for it yet! Everyone says I look young for my age, but my skin is very dry and VERY sensitive. I need a great system – cleanser, moisturizer, wrinkle preventer, moisturizing makeup, etc. Please help me out as I’m clueless about what to use at this stage in my life – and I refuse to give up my makeup!!!
ANY & ALL help will be so appreciated.
Signed, One MUG lover needing help :)

I’m 34 and have skin very similar to yours- dry & sensitive. I’ve also worked in the beauty industry for 15+ years, so it seems like I’ve tried almost everything out there! Since I work in the industry and am a beauty blogger, I’m kind of constantly switching up my routine and trying new things, but there are a few suggestions I can make.

Cleanser- my favorite to date is Annemarie Borlind Rose Dew Cleansing Milk. I used it a while back and really liked how well it cleansed and removed makeup (no other non-foaming cleanser I’ve ever used removed MU as well). The price does keep me from being a loyal user, but I’ll tell you, the winter weather and a return to using my prescription retinol has me ready to order a bottle!

Wrinkle preventer- prescription retinol. It is the ONLY topical ingredient that’s scientifically proven to reduce wrinkles, so that’s it for me. It also reduces pore size, dark spots, acne…This is one step in my routine that I am 100% confident i am using the best thing on the market.

I also use Olay Regenerist Micro-sculpting serum during the day (retinol is night only). I’ve used serums that cost 4 times as much- as a matter of fact, I’ve worked for the companies that sell them- and I was stunned when I did the research and compared the Regenerist line to, say, the Estee Lauder Perfectionist and Idealist that I used to use. You can pick up the Olay for under $20, and I definitely think it’s a great option.

Moisturizer- I switch around a lot here, but one I always have on hand is CeraVe cream. I kept reading about this one in magazines under “best of” or “dermatologist recommends” lists, so I finally broke and got some. This was literally the first drug-store skin care I’d used since age 14. It’s not luxurious, it can feel a little waxy at first, and it doesn’t have all kinds of spectacular special ingredients, but it’s a great time-released moisturizer. It helps to seal and pull moisture in to the skin, and repair the skin’s protective barrer. I carry it in my makeup kit becuase I know I can use it on just about anyone w/out fear of irritation, and it’s one of those things I can always use when my skin is dry or irritated and know it’s not going to do anything but help. Bonus: the jar is HUGE and cheap, and you can get it at most drugstores!

Oh, and of course, I have to say: SPF 15 or higher is a MUST for daytime- every day! I like the CeraVe AM, Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery w/SPF and Antioxidants (both have some nice protective anti-aging ingredients). I’m testing a new one by a company called Likewise Skincare right now that has a pretty impressive ingredient list, so we’ll see how that goes!

Jessica – thank you so much! :D I am going to get some of the CeraVe for sure! ANY of the Olay products breaks me out and any of the products with Olay in them – even the sensitive skin ones – that’s how ultra sensitive my skin is. :(

Good luck with the new skincare product. Hope it goes well for you! :) If you can think of anything else, I’d be more than happy to know. Again, thanks!

do some research on http://www.beautypedia.com – it’s Paula Begoun’s site and she reviews thousands of product a year.

Personally, I am an Olay Regenerist fan – cleanser, serum, moisturizer, night serum and night moisturizer. However, because of the SPF of the serum & moisturizer – I’m looking for others. Reason – titanium dioxide flashes white in photos. See my post in the makeup chat forum regarding that. I can always put on sunscreen if I’m outside.

Tracy, I’m older than you (48), and I’m kind of re-overhauling my routine too, so I know how you feel. Plus, my skin is completely freaky – I’d classify it as “sensitive/combo/mature”, so it’s a lot to figure out. Plus, I tend to do a lot better with more organic or natural brands, so that limits me too.

Two things that I love a lot – Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser, and Josie Maran’s Argan Oil. I’m going to be hunting for a new moisturizer and eye cream when I run out of my current stuff, so I’m doing it in bits and pieces.

Try out the mario badescu creams treatment… Are really good. :)
Organic and natural product, not tested in animals and not that expensive as dior and chanel.
