Yesterday I got fed up with seeing online sellers insisting that they were selling “Class A” or “Singapore Authentic” MAC cosmetics. The nerve! They even price it pretty close to the authentic product price. How frustrating–especially since they say the reason they can get it so cheap is because they got it straight from the MAC warehouse.
One girl told me she got duped into buying a lipstick for $15 and she wasn’t able to tell it was fake until she swatched it. By then she couldn’t return it.
I ranted about fake MAC cosmetics on my blog and added some tips on how to spot fake MAC so people would be a bit wiser about their purchases. Figured I might as well share it here too.

February 10, 2012 at 12:15 am #151110Yea, thanx. Being a relative newbie to the world of makeup – I had *NO* idea…
Being a Belly Dancer, MAC is one of my faves!
February 10, 2012 at 6:34 pm #151447Basically the best way to spot fake MAC is seeing it anywhere other than an actual MAC counter or store…I was a regional makeup artist and manager for Estee Lauder for several years, NO Lauder brand (among others- Bobbi Brown, MAC, Origins, Clinique, Benefit, Smashbox) sells wholesale (directly to small businesses), has warehouse sales, sells at flea markets, etc…There is a Lauder company outlet store called “The Cosmetics Company Store” that you can find at some of the larger outlet malls across the US.
You may also occasionally see the brand’s products on sale on members-only sites like HauteLook, Gilt, etc…I have not been able to verify w/ Lauder that these sales are authentic, but I have heard from other brand reps that they’re authorized, so I feel these are probably the only safe bets when it comes to discounted product on-line.

Wanted to share this FAKE MAC site. Their site is obviously legit and you can purchase from them, but the makeup is not real MAC. No MAC products will ever be sold this cheap brand new, and the site is very generic. A lot of the colors do not have names and the palettes come with a double sponge tip applicator (which MAC does not sell those in palettes). Also, the contact email is @yahoo.com.. so there is another give a way. They claim to sell authentic MAC Cosmetics, but I contacted them (and keep in mind that their “Customer Service Chat is ran through Yahoo Messenger lol) and was told “No, it is replica but I use this everyday and see no difference”. Those were the exact words! Their fanclub has over 1000 members and I feel so bad for them, as they have been made to believe that their hard earned money was being put towards high-end makeup, that they’ve probably been saving up for. Now they are walking around with harmful unknown substances on their faces, which someone in China made in their kitchen!
February 21, 2012 at 9:46 am #153273I haven’t really tried a MAC product but if I were to invest on MAC, I wouldn’t buy for anything lesser than the selling price especially if it’s extremely cheap. It’s not worth it as I’m sure it will cause skin irritation.
February 25, 2012 at 2:37 pm #154086Hi – I recently purchased MAC blushes from online that are guaranteed authentic from a MAC outlet in the US (COO). However, the sticker on the bottom of the blush is different then the one I have purchased at the store. Does this matter? The one I have from the store has the sticker writing going from lid hing to the opposite side (i.e. where the lid clicks into)… where as the new ones have the writing going from left to write (like how MAC is written on the top of the lid). Any help would be appreciated – the boxes match the ones I have bought at the store and they all have batch numbers
February 29, 2012 at 2:25 pm #154823I seriously saw someone on Ebay trying to pass off the BH Cosmetics 120 palate as MAC.
The best way to avoid fakes (like others said) is to buy it from the counter, and to familiarize yourself with the brand and its packaging. I know the price is steep and its tempting to try a cheaper venture, but seriously!! Fake handbags are one thing, Fake MAKEUP? If you are buying impostor makeup, you have no idea what you are putting on your face!February 29, 2012 at 3:09 pm #154864There are some sellers on eBay that sell legitimate MAC products (makeupemporium1 is one of them; Specktra has an ongoing list on their forums).
I seriously saw someone on Ebay trying to pass off the BH Cosmetics 120 palate as MAC.
Fixed that for you. (The 120 palette is generic just like all the 88 palettes, 78 palettes, and such like; BH just rebrands it and marks up the price.)
February 29, 2012 at 3:34 pm #154886Well whatever they call it, BH, Costal Scents, all the same.
March 5, 2012 at 4:30 pm #156025its simple if you dont buy at MAC its obviously fake!
