I have a question. Many times I hear Marlena say to keep the color in the crease. What if you can not find the crease? My eyes are small and to me a little hooded so it is hard for me to tell where the crease is. I am trying to get of out the same color routine that I have had FOREVER. Brown is my go to color and I use it alot. So besides the crease question. What other colors could I use that would not make me look like a clown?
February 21, 2012 at 9:15 am #153263If you don’t have a defined crease, it’s on the hallows of your eye socket just below your brown bone. I love neutral shadows myself and I always go for browns. You can go for golden shadows, peach, or pinkish shades. Normally a golden-y shadow is a good option and I believe makes any eye color pop. If you don’t want to go there, try golden brown shadow with shimmers. I hope this helps.
February 21, 2012 at 12:58 pm #153306Another thing you can try, is a technique I use often & does not deal with the crease really much at all. And that is to put down your lid color, and take a deeper color in the outter part of your lid, & blend inwards. It’s something that you can make as natural or dramatic as you want. And since you sayd you’re having a hard tyme working with the crease, this is something you can maybe try, that doesn’t deal with bringing the color up into the crease to define your eyes. Hopefully that makes sense! Haha
February 21, 2012 at 7:57 pm #153411If you have a hooded eye then working in the crease isn’t going to have the same kind of effect as it does on those who don’t have that eye shape. I use the same technique Winkie does, applying the darker shade at the outer v and then blending inwards, it allows me far more control in how/where I create the shadow.
As for colour, that really depends on what your natural colouring and tone is, as well as what your personal style is.
February 21, 2012 at 10:41 pm #153451Thanks for the advice. I am really trying to branch out in my colors. Is there a color that I should not use. I have hazel eyes. Does it make a difference what the eye color is?
February 21, 2012 at 10:46 pm #153456Is there a color that I should not use
No.
February 21, 2012 at 11:01 pm #153466I’m sorry, I should have been clearer. I was actually referring to skin colour and tone, not eye colour. Some colours/tones, even applied as eyeshadow, can make certain skin tones look washed out or sickly. I don’t wear orange toned colours for this reason. That’s not just actual orange, but orange toned browns, orangey golds/yellows, and peaches that lean strongly toward orange.
February 22, 2012 at 12:36 am #153481I am so confused. lol
February 22, 2012 at 2:26 am #153492Let me clarify.
When I said it depends on what your natural colouring and tone is, I was referring to the colouring and tone of your skin and not the colour of your eyes. Like I am pale with a very cool/pink undertone, and I find that orange is a no-no for me because it makes me look like I’m sick. It isn’t just actual orange, but also orange toned browns, orangey golds/yellows, and peaches that lean strongly toward orange that I find do this to me.
February 22, 2012 at 9:35 am #153510I’m right there with you Kristy. I find the best thing to do when I’m looking for something new is to hit up makeup stores like ULTA. They generally have “artists” there that can help you find something in your price range that’s good for your skin. I have Irish skin so I understand the whole “clown” or “hooker” look that you’re referring to. It’s hard to “play up” what you don’t have. I NEED PIGMENT DANGIT! lol you and I have similar eye, cheek, face shape. on top of that I have glasses so it really stinks for me to find all these great ideas, try them and then realize my glasses cover everything up. I’m hitting up ULTA this weekend for the original NAKED palette just becauseit has a great variety of colors that all skin tones can use. It’s a bit pricey if you’re used to drugstore makeup-but from what I’ve spent on stuff just NOT showing up or wearing off fast..I’ll pay the extra for something that’s going to last. HTH and I haven’t rambled much
February 22, 2012 at 10:23 am #153519I went to a store here that we have that has the artist and they did a make over on me. The only thing is they do not show you the techniques that they do. They just do them. I told them that I need to be shown what to do. Guess they did not want to show me. That is why I like Makeup Geek. I can pause and start again on whatever Marlena is doing. But I still do not understand somethings. I want to use the color pink but when I put it on it disappears. I have to get a hot pink to make it look like a pastel pink.
February 22, 2012 at 10:25 am #153520Winkie…I do that technique too. Marlena taught me that. I just want to try other things but the crease thing just kills me and frustrates me when I can get it.
