    Hey there!
So Ive seen a lot of ads lately in salons for “blowouts”. I was wondering if anyone here has ever had this done. I have been trying for years to get smooth hair but regular old shampoo just doesnt help. My hair is dry, frizzy, poofy, and difficult. I want it to be smooth, pretty and manageable like in commercials and tv.

    Any recommendations or ideas?

I’ve never done the blowouts. But last year, for some reason my hair was really dry and frizzy. Even if I tried to straighten it, it just didn’t look right. I have been using HairMaster’s Cashmere shampoo and conditioner for a while now, and I just love it. It has Keratin in it, which your hair will absorb (from root to tip), making it stronger and smoother. My hair feels soft without feeling weighed down, oily, or greasy. I’m able to style it much easier. My really close friend is a hair stylist and swears by keratin rather than just a “softening or soothing” cream, since the keratin helps with the health of the hair inside and out, rather than just coating it with an oil or cream that will eventually buildup or evaporate, or rinse out whenever it is wet.

    I hope that helps!

There’s no such thing as healthy hair. Sure, it might look healthy (or not, as the case may be), but it can’t actually be healthy. Hair is dead, and there for can’t be healthy anymore than the fibres in your pants can be healthy.

I would suggest reading this post by the Beauty Brains where they discuss new technology that helps smooth hair, and mention which products contain it. I’d also suggest having a look around their blog at posts on conditioners, what works, and what’s a load of crap.

I have heard of the Brazilian Blowouts, is that what youre talking about? I wanted to try one, but they are expensive and you can only have them done by a professional who is trained in using the chemicals. The more research I did I also found out the chemicals used were actually hazardous to your health and the FDA wanted the blowouts taken off the market. After reading that, I decided to try a less chemical alternative by the company Organix. Its an at home product that lasts about 30 days. I loved the results; my hair wasnt frizzy and looked smoother and took less time to style. I also got the shampoo, conditioner and flat iron spray that are part of the product line hoping they would help keep the look going longer, and so far I am very happy. I will be applying this again. You should try it, just make sure you do it on a long weekend or something because you have to leave the product in your hair 48 hrs before you finish the whole process! Totally worth it IMO

No you can’t repair damaged hair (it’s like trying to repair a broken nail, just isn’t going to really happen), but keeping it trimmed, and washing it in keratin will help it to fight getting split-ends, and by helping to keep the hair layers flattened (without putting on grease and creams that will build up and weigh them down.)

Limiting the use of hair straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers (lower the temperatures, and not doing it very often) will help to make it not look “unhealthy”.

I say try to leave it alone from “treatments”, “heating appliances” and try to nurture it as much as possible, preferably with keratin.

So anything with keratin in it should at least be helpful? I’ve seen a few in sallys beauty store, by ion and a few other brands. Would those be good? I know when one the organix is, how about suave or other regular store brands? i know it wont make your hair “healthy” bc its technically already dead…

If you realize that your hair can’t actually be healthy, given that it’s dead, then you should also realize that means keratin isn’t going to help with the health of hair.

yes hair is dead and cant be healthy but what kertain does is lay down the cuticle of the hair make it smoother shiner and softer. Try biolage conditioner it works mircales. Also use a anti frizz serum on your hair before you blow dry. section the hair and as you blow dry hold the hair down also hold the hair closer to you as you flat iron. dont touch your hair as this tends to cause more frizz. Heat settings play a big roll in flat ironing what type of hair do you have. I woud not recommend anything like a brazzilian blowout they are toxic I refuse to do them because as a stylist I have seen so many stylist get respiratory infections after doing one. If the beauty industry was more regulated they would be outlawed.

I work in a high end salon and our stylists do Brazilian Blowouts on a regular basis and the results are worth the money. I myself have had it done and I have curly, frizzy hair and after having the treatment done it dramatically cut down on my drying time. It normally takes about 30 min to blow dry my own hair, but after having the treatment done it only took 10 min. There is the Brazilian Blowout Zero that is supposed to be formelddehyde (sorry, don’t remember how to spell that one) free, but its not as effective. The results will give you softer, smoother, more manageable hair and as long as you use the right shampoo and conditioner it should last a few months.
