Opinions on Clinique Foundations?

Postby Samsonite959 on Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:10 am

Hey MUGs!

Just wondering if anyone has opinions good or bad on Clinique foundations, any of them, but would really like to hear about Perfectly Real and Superbalanced Liquid.

Just to give you an idea about my skin, I currently use Lancome's Teint Idole foundation, which I like but I'm not overly thrilled with.
-I only wear liquid foundation when I go out, so I do look for it to be long wearing and good for photos bt also natural in person (right.. like that happens often :) ).
-I'm very fair so I can be hard to match color wise.
-I have occassional breakouts, although lately they've been happening more often to my dismay, so something that will cover that without making it worse would be good.
-Lastly, I have combination skin. Fairly normal on the cheeks, with an oily T-Zone, which will become oily throughout the day through makeup. So a foundation that resists that would also be great.

Obviously I know a foundation won't do all these things but if you think one of the Clinique foundations will come close or have experianced them NOT doing these things, it would be really helpful to me.

Thanks again!

Their foundations are pretty fantastic... but if you're pale, you're going to have a hard time getting a good color match. I'm about NC20, bordering on NC15 in Mac and I don't think I've ever found a good match there. I used to work the counter there part time and we had to wear the foundation -- I basically had to wear powder over a tinted moisturizer and lie saying it was one of their foundations. Everything was very orangey on me there.

Superbalanced would be a good choice for you, it helps to moisturize dry areas and combat oilyness in oily areas. I don't know if you'd like Perfectly Real. It's not got much coverage so it really depends on your preference. Acne Solutions may also be an option for you but the color match is TERRIBLE on that one.

I would definitely try it in store and wear it for a few hours inside and outside to see how the color match is on you. Wouldn't recommend buying online!

Thanks!

I've just had trouble with foundation because in my opinion.. I'm not THAT pale. But I went to a MAC counter and the girl there said that none of the shades would match me.. Idk how that's possible but maybe I should try again with another girl. I just hate using Lancome foundation because it's so expensive :(

To be honest with you. I'm really not a fan of Clinque's Foundation for oily skin. Your Lancome's Teint Idole would probably be better then what Clinique has to offer.
Estee Lauder's Double Wear Light is similar to your current foundation with a bit more coverage and better longevity. As long as you take it off at the end of the night, it shouldn't break you out.

I've been using the Clinique perfectly real for about six months..It is my favorite foundation at the moment, and I've tried MAC, Laura Mercier, and many Lancome products..

The foundation itself is very thick and creamy, and very blendable as well as EXTREMELY natural, I love the color. One thing the clinique counselor told me was that it was natural enough that I did not need to apply it everywhere on my face. Let's say I would apply it to a problem area, like a sunspot, or my jawline, where I usually breakout..And I did, and you cannot tell that I am wearing foundation in just one place. It was a perfect color match for me. You should really go to the counter bc the Clinique sites makes the colors look far darker than they are in real life..

It is great for combination, and the formula is thick..It is also a bit sheer, but not overwhelming..It is your skin, but better and very healthy, it also has a great staying power..

I also used to work part time at a clinique counter. I'm very fair (mac nc 15) and alabaster in superbalanced is a perfect match. It looks very natural, and provides moderate coverage. I also have normal/combination skin. Perfectly Real didn't work for my skin type. So, I don't think that it will be the best choice for you. Hth.

Thanks for all the help ladies!

I actually went to the counter the other day in search of a foundation match and the lady at the counter put the Acne Solutions one on me. I was a little hesitant after hearing about the color match issues and oxidizing, but after she put it on me, I really liked it. It looks like skin and not that made up look that the Revlon Colorstay tends to have on me. And, since I have been struggling with some breakouts lately, the acne healing portion doesn't hurt. I haven't noticed it breaking me out. I don't think its an exact match, but it is very close. The oxidizing, at least on me, is minimal. It may be a little too dry for me in the winter though, so I'm hoping by then my breakups will have cleared and I can pull off the Superbalanced. Hopefully that will be the HG. I'm still on the hunt for it! haha

This. My skin is not oily anymore due to finally balancing the hormonal situation - but for years it was. I have tried both the Clinique foundations you're asking about and they're pretty good - but when I wore them they were streaky no matter what method of application I used. And not light enough. I don't even bother going to MAC for foundation because I already know none of them are light enough for me.

I do agree with the suggestion for Lancome. Teint Idole has been my HG foundation for probably the last five years. The color Ivoire 1 is a perfect match for me. It is the lightest - and apparently a lot of the smaller volume counters in the lower volume department stores don't carry it, so if you're in a smaller town I would call before you go to the store if it's a long way to go for you. I would try both of the lightest shades on - but there is a BIG difference between Ivoire 1 and ivoire 2. I know it's expensive, but I think I buy it twice a year. And I use it almost every day. You don't need much.

As far as Clinique foundations go I recommend the Acne Solutions Foundation, it sets to a matte type finish so it will work well for you oily areas and it contains salicylic acid. It also blends nicely into the skin and looks very natural and I think it costs right around $20 or something like that, and it comes in very light shades for fair skin.

Another foundation I recommend is Estee Lauder Double Wear because it looks beautiful on the skin, easy to blend and work with, sets to a more matte finish so it's great for oily skin and it's very long wearing, this is my favorite matte foundation and the clinique acne solutions is my second favorite. The clinique doesn't have the same long wear time that the estee lauder has, but if you are only wearing it when you go out and for short periods of time the clinique might be better because it is more affordable, the estee lauder is $34.

If you are interested this is a review I did on the Clinique foundation awhile back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq7Jj_hY978

Hi there. I must say your skin sounds very similar to mine. I am very pale..the consultants are always surprised that they basically have to go for the light colors they save for pale redheads because I don't necessarily look that pale when I walk in with my face done (thank you makeup!). I have pretty much tried everything because I get so frustrated with one aspect or another but i would say as of late...I recently ditched my perfectly real and went to Lancome's newer Teint Miracle. On days that i want to be more matte, I actually use Revlon Colorstay in 110 Ivory. Sometimes, I even mix them. Overall, i think Clinique has great product but for some reason their foundations tend to run yellow/orangy on me for some reason no matter what. If you are willing to try the world of "dry" foundation...I have had success with Bare Minerals as well...i just found that after years of liquid foundation, I am much more proficient at that type of application than dry. I do keep a spare Bare Minerals in my stash for really hot days, it seems to help me not look like I just came out of a sweat box.
Lastly (sorry for being so verbose)...i have got to say that if you start with a good face primer, you will get much better results from your foundation. If you are not using one, I recommend at least getting some sample product from Sephora or something. It has made a HUGE difference in making foundation really work for me.

I just went to the Clinique counter 2 weeks ago for my birthday. I had done my research beforehand and wanted to try the Continuous Coverage because I'm super self-conscious about my skin even though it's really not that horrible.
But, when the makeup artist saw me, she automatically went to the Acne Solutions foundation (I don't know if I should have been offended or not...). I was so surprised with the coverage and how well it went on and looked! She completely changed my mind. I knew I didn't like Super-Balanced. My mom has been using that my whole entire life and I just don't like how sheer that goes on.
I would definitely recommend the Acne Solutions. And also, trust the Clinique ladies! Most of the time they really know what they're doing :)

Oops, forgot to mention that I got the little gift when I bought the foundation too, and I got a sample of the Even Better foundation. It's amazing! It's got an awesome coverage as well. Neither of them feel heavy and they blend in really well with my skin tone.

I would definitely suggest that one as well.

I hope that helps and I'm not just rambling!
