Home Made Remedies

Postby batwife on Tue Aug 26, 2008 7:18 pm

I thought that this would be a good idea to list any home remedies you might know of or have used before. (i.e. masks, scrubs, exfoliants, etc)

HONEY MASK (+OATMEAL)
Use warm cloth to open pores, smear on honey, leave on 15 to 30 minutes, rinse off with warm water, and then use cold water to close pores. Use for 3 days in a row and then once a week. Sometimes I mix a little ground oatmeal with the honey, which makes a great mask.

So let's share :)

May I add another trick?

To exfoliate your lips, you can use honey and a toothbrush for babies, one with very soft bristles.

hi guys!
these remedies are for deep conditioning hair: use mayonaise and lather all over the hair, wrap your hair in a shower cap for maybe 20 - 30 minutes and then wash!
olive oil is also great use the same way as with mayonaise.

What you want to do is wash your hair very very well after the treatment =)

hope this helps!

I use extra virgin olive oil and sugar as a body, face and lip scrub. I'm careful not to scrub too hard on my face or lips..and it works really well because the olive oil moisturizes! :D

I also use castor, or olive oil to moisturize my eyelashes.. it helps them grow as well as keeps them from breaking or coming out.

Sweet almond oil, or olive oil doubles as an under eye cream as well.

Also mayonnaise can be used for killing lice too.

Well as a nice rinse that exfoliates but also darkens your hair is a rosemary rinse
2 tbs rosemary
3 cups of water

boil the ingredients let cool and pour onto hair
then rinse again

I find this helpful for my hair personally if you have gray hair this can darken it but not recomended if you have lightened your hair because it will darken it.

also i put a little bit of honey as a gloss

I love applying extra virgin olive oil to a clean face and letting my skin absorb it for a little bit. I only tend to use this remedy in the winter when my skin gets so dry and flaky from the cold that no amount of exfoliation or moisturizing cuts it. Olive oil mends my flaky skin quickly! I also sometimes give myself an olive oil head massage, massaging it into the roots and applying it on my split ends and letting it sink in for about 20 minutes (sometimes a lot longer) before I wash it out.

No, mayonaise cannot kill lice. The lice just hybernate until you remove the mayonaise. Fortunately, lice hate the smell of tea tree oil, and considering a lot of the lice treatments do not work well because the lice have become immune to the products. It works very well if you are diligent at removing the nits.

I like to drink AND topically use a tea from South Africa called Rooibos... I drink 2-3 cups a day and I've seen a big improvement with my acne and stomach problems. I also chill the tea and use it in place of my usual toner. It's really soothing, so it helps with redness and swelling. If I have an eczema patch or area with more acne than the rest of my skin, I'll make some tea, then squeeze out the teabag a bit, chill in the fridge or freezer and use it as a spot treatment, letting it sit on my problem area for 15-20 minutes.

Another treatment I use for breakouts is an aspirin/caffeine powder & honey mask. BC is a brand that makes it in powder form and sells boxes of it at CVS or Walgreen's for a few dollars. I use one envelope of the powder, add a few drops of water to make it into a thin paste, then mix that with about a tablespoon of honey. I apply it to my face and leave it on for about 15 minutes. The acidity of the aspirin helps get rid of breakouts, the caffeine takes out puffiness, and you can exfoliate with it if you rub it around a little before you rinse your face. I only use this type of mask about twice a week but it works wonderfully!
