Wonky Forums?

Postby Ozzie85 on Thu Dec 22, 2011 4:52 pm

I really hope whomever runs this forums reads this, but I honestly prefer the look and easy of the old msg boards. And now that I clicked on the forum button, it seems that the IT team has changed it back but now alot of new posts have been deleted. To be honest, the wonky forums is why I think alot of people have stopped coming here, the mug website forums are really unpredictable as to whether they will be working or not and it's annoying. This is in no way meant to be bitchy, just venting and to make people notice, but I am sure they are well aware of the issues. I had a post on the Maybelline Dream Bouncy blushes but I will re-post with a review once I have used them long enough.

I totally agree with you. The new forum, if could even call it that, was confusing. I'm assuming that they have switched back, I hope. And I'm guessing all the post were deleted with it because when I logged into the new on older posts had no usernames or anything. But I don't really care if the posts were deleted. Anyway I'm rambling. PLEASE keep the old format.

While the look of the new forum was nice and it was nice to see the last time a forum or thread was active at a glance, I really missed the "new posts" button and the usernames on posts. I saw some of my own posts under a different username (it was just gibberish of letters and numbers), and had some troubles logging in too.

I like this format much better than the new one, but I do appreciate the efforts by the MUG staff to upgrade and maintain continuity all over the site. Hopefully all of the bugs are worked out and the forums will work consistantly and properly for everyone.

Sorry for the slow reply, I tend to be out of commission for about a week before Christmas, and I lost access to my account during the musical chairs/forums so wasn't really able to give fair warning.

I agree, the way the forums go offline without warning or explanation has had a negative effect, and it was extremely unfortunate that the forum migration didn't go smoothly (missing usernames, people losing their accounts, some or all of their posts being under a different username, posts containing gibberish, etc. etc.) and they had to resort to changing back to this one. However, they wont be keeping this forum (though my current understanding is that it will be put into read-only mode and kept as an archive/reference for awhile), and they will end up changing to the new one at some point in the future (I am told this will be sooner rather than latter).

I can understand if there are things which you will miss on this forum when we do make the move to the new one, but the new forum is integrated with the actual site and they will be able to develop far more members features than what this forum can offer. I'm personally hoping that they'll develop a more extensive profile that allows people to list their skin type and shade, as well as favourite products and information on their current routine. This would make answering advice threads so much easier, but also mean people can look at what others with their skin type or shade are currently loving. The new forum will also be able to deal with spam far better, be more robust as the community grows, and be far more 'future proof'. It also offers a lot more security, and we shouldn't have as many issues with viruses and other such problems as we've seen happen on this forum.

I'm sorry if this is disappointing news, but I really do believe that in the long run it is better for the community to move to this new forum rather than stay here. I will try my very best to answer whatever questions I can, both before and after the move, but please give this a chance as I think once you get use to the new forum you'll enjoy it more than this one.
