Question about long lasting eye shadows

Postby Mariagom on Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:08 pm

Hi! I have very oily eyelids and most eye shadows tend to melt in just one or two hours, although I use UD primer potion (which I love, but not enough for standard eye shadows). I am using Mac paint pots and I am happy because they last all day (together with the primer) but the colour range is so limited that finally I get bored.

I have also tried Mufe cream shadows but I hate the colours and also Bobbi Brown cream shadows but they all look too glittery to me. Can anyone recommend any long lasting eye shadows with a nice colour range?. Please!! I am soooooo bored! and when I see all those gorgeous colours out there I wish I could wear them!

Hi Mariagom,

I feel your pain with oily eyelids. Mine melt almost anything, including liner if there's nothing else there.

What I have found that works for me - use a good moisturizer at night, and after I wash my face in the morning, no more moistureizer. Then, I use MAC Prep + Prime for eyes and dust it very lightly with powder. And after that, MAC eyeshadows. They will stick with me through a twelve hour day.

Good luck!

I have extremely oily eyelids too! :( I finally found a solution that works for me. First UDPP, then MAC Paint or Paint Pot, then my shadow of choice. Works great and does not crease at all, even in the summer months. You may want to try MUFE Aqua Cream Shadows (I think that is what they are called). They are in a small pot type container. Great colors, but you do have to work fast before they set. They do not budge once they set. Even work great when you layer a powder shadow over them. Just a thought for you to consider.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!! I actually tried MUFE (Make up forever) aqua cream shadows but I do not like very much the colour range (they just have one green and a couple of blues so not many options and they all look a bit harsh to me).

I am using UDPP + Mac paint pots (I love them, but the colour range is very limited, only black, some browns and few neutrals).

Lovemyzoe, your suggestion to use UDPP+Mac PP+ other shadows sounds great! I had never thought that would work so I am eager to try this weekend!. I will use UDPP+Mac painterly as a base, then powder eye shadows and ..let´s see what happens..If it works, pls remind me to send you a big big hug! ;-)

As regards setting with powder, I have tried some brands as well, but for some reason, powder does the opposite job in my eyelids..they look cakey after a while :-(

Hope this trick works..and finally, colour can come into my life!! :-D

A lot of people use paint pots or aqua creams as a base, layering their eyeshadows on top. It not only helps them last longer, but gives the shadows more vibrancy.

My lids are oily too and it's evident after 3 hours! By the end of the day, I think I've enough oil to fry an egg. I use Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (UDPP) and I tell you this product is great with a capital G! I found out later from good ol' MUG fellows that the thing about using UDPP is to NEVER have anything underneath it and so, after applying my eye cream, i applied UDPP and Voila! After 12 hours, NOT a CREASE! Yes you read it correctly. NOT A CREASE! Amazing stuff this UDPP. Give it a try!

So I tried, and I have to say that result was pretty acceptable!! My shadows lasted around 6/8 hours without creasing!! I will have to try again in the summer (I guess winter time may also help against melting). But anyway, I am very happy with the result!. Thanks Lovemyzoe!
