Rest assured, we are more than aware when a photo has been edited. To the trained eye, tricks like Photoshop, soft-focus filters and over-exposure are easy to spot- and we know what the effects of such methods are when they're used. The winning entry may likely have had retouching done to areas of the photo (in order to even skin tone out and erase pores) but we feel that Azin did not alter the appearance of the eye makeup, which was the featured part of the look being judged. For the record, plenty of other entries employ these techniques as well.

The random winner was: ox0xbarbiex0xo

It was posted in the original announcement, but a lot of people were asking about it, so I changed the formatting, hopefully it stands out a little more now

This is just my interpretation, but I think when members are asking for an amateur winner, they don't mean someone who doesn't do makeup for a living, but someone who obviously put in the effort but doesn't have same the skills/tools as some people. A better way to phrase it might be a beginner/intermediate category.

In any case, it's up to Marlena and her team to judge any contest they create any way they choose.

The only part I found discouraging were the people who came into the thread, saw what had already been posted, and declined to enter because of it. Which is not the fault of the contest itself (esp with the random winner), but I wish people felt more confident in themselves. I think that type of feeling is the opposite of what these contests are supposed to inspire.

In my opinion I personally dont care if the winner has a high skill level with regards to applying makeup, however I must honestly say that the winning entry doesnt really have any relation to arabic eye makeup and that is what I found disappointing. I thought there were other entries that did just as well and captured what arabic makeup really is [no i am not talking about my own entry haha]

I think many people have been offended with contestants expressing their opinions across, and I have been one of them eventhough it was certainly not done in a malicious way. I cant speak for everyone but my aim was to give constructive critism in order for it to be applied in future contests by just being more specific. Nevertheless like I mentioned before the winner is clearly very talented and her triumph has proved this. Makeup is fun and I love it so, so please lets not let our competitiveness take away the magic affects from our profession or hobby. :D

It is too bad, but frankly, I know how these people feel. I entered solely in hopes of getting the luck of the random draw, knowing full well that any look I created had NO HOPE against some of these other entries. If it wasn't for the fact that I could really use a set of brushes I wouldn't have entered at all. It makes me feel kind of silly entering my looks which are so bad compared to the level that some others are. But a contest is a contest and the best should win!

I hope you at least had fun doing your look though. Because I think having fun and trying new looks is a large part of why they have these contests. I entered the eyeliner challenge and while I didn't think I had much of a chance in the skill contest it was still fun to try and do a look with just eyeliner.

Hi there i thought the winners look was amazing i would love to see someone do a tutorial on how to do a look such as this, do you need a special airbrushing tool like they use for nail art? Or a stencil or something anyhow i would love to give this look a go. I didnt see any products she used on the post so if anyone has any ideas or would like to do a video tutorial that would be excellent .... Im hoping trying this look out and tweaking it to my own style. This will help with perfecting some of my make up techniques and broaden my make up repertoire . I enter these contests more to get inspiration and a different perspective on styles and ways of doing make up i think its a great resource and for the fact that people are so willing to share their ideas and thoughts reviews and such and secondly cause everyone so so nice and helpful.
Look forward to to hearing some feed back from ye lovely MUGS xx

Jessica,

thank you so much for the concise and informative answer to the not so polite responses to why Azin was chosen as the winner. Personally, I find it very offensive that you had to spend so much time responding to people that are as my grandmother would say "would complain if you hung them with a new rope". I find it sad that this community that I look forward to coming to at the end of a busy day and seeing the gorgeous ideas that are posted for MY benefit as well as many others. I have learned so many techniques, not just from Marlena and her team, but from the many posters who choose so generously to participate in the contests and in the forums.

I am hopeful that we can get back to the most important parts of the site, make up, ideas, tutorials and sharing with one another.

I am terrified to put myself in photo and out there, but am grateful for the skills and the women who choose to do so.

Also, Lady Red? I have seen other makeup similar to what Azin did (which is just spectacular) and have seen it with pencils and shadows. It's amazing and I am utterly in awe of the talent and the time that it takes to create such a look.

To everyone that participated... please continue, I enjoy seeing all of your ideas and look forward to seeing many more.

Thank you and many congratulations to our winners this week, as well as to all who chose to submit an idea and take the time to make my day, and I'm sure others, brighter.

We've also created a new spot among the announcements that will basically be a winner's gallery- titled "Weekly Challenge Winners" this topic will be an easy place to go to when you need to catch up on who's won. In order to be able to easily scroll through past winners, we won't have the Winners gallery open for comment, but the original contest thread will always remain open for discussion and congratulations!
