age old remedy. It does have mild astringent, soothing and inflammitory properties, so it may very well work for you. Just make sure your formula is pure Witch Hazel w/ no ethyl alcohols (ethanol, ethyl alcohol, denatured alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, and SD alcohol). These will strip your skin and cause increased oil production. You'll get used to the smell.

Oh, and remember, don't expect to see results right away- it takes your skin 30ish days to cycle, so give it atleast a month or two.

Um, it does have a
"Natural alcohol 14%."
But my skin is very very oily and i was using something to draw out some of those oils anyway. So, I should just stop using that other, when i start the witch hazel?

I use witch hazel....lol & the smell is not bad once ur used to it....anyway I have extremely oily skin & it seems to decrease my oil production i dont get as oily as I normally would without it...for me I like it alot cuz alot of other astringents or toners I have used I break out more from so I would suggest it if you have oily skin :)

Well, natural alcohol isn't a scientific term, so it's impossible to tell what type of alcohol is in this- I would think if you were really concerned and called the company, they'd have to tell you. Some alcohols are "fatty" and will not dry out or irritate most skin (Ones that start w/ "C" as well as stearyl and lanolin alcohol.)

Even though you're very oily, using any drying alcohol will actually make your skin produce more oil, not less. Oil is your skin's natural protection- if you take it all away, your skin will panic and pump out more to compensate. You'll end up in a vicious circle: you stripping oil away, your skin producing more to make up for what it thinks is missing. I'd say try it, but be on the lookout for dry patches, flakiness, redness combined w/ increased breakouts. A break out by itself may not be something to worry about- it's normal as your skin adjusts and purges dirt and oil. If you're not already, you may also want to look into a cleanser containing salicylic acid- that will help to control oil and clear out your pores as well.

When I first got my nose pierced they gave my witch hazel to doctor it with. So when I ran out, I went to wal mart and bought a huge bottle for like 5 dollars or something like that. I never thought of using it for beauty related...I need to try it.
