Review: Urban Decay Summer 2010 Products
Summer of Love Eyeshadow Palette
What is it?
A makeup kit with 4 eyeshadows, an eyeliner, and a champagne colored eyeshadow primer! Includes the eyeshadows: Flash, Maui Wowie, Smog, and Chopper
They Describe It As:
Say goodbye covered shoulders, hello sexy, when you wear these three golden neutrals together for a summery bronzed look. Our mix of textures gives you layers of silky-soft shimmer and flashy bits of gold. Play with how you blend them; from an au naturel glow, to a smoky eye with a bright pop. Bold against a tan. Feel the love in this palette, which includes a travel-sized Sin Eyeshadow Primer Potion (to keep your look going strong on those long summer nights) and 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil …an addicting treat for any free spirit. Complete with mirror and magnetic cover (and some groovy vintage photos inside), you’ll want to host your own love-in.

Overall Opinion:
I do think this is a cute palette, and I like all the colors! But… the colors are nothing new from Urban Decay so if you have these colors already, it isn’t worth getting the kit. If you don’t have these colors or are new to the brand, this is a great buy and the shadows really are pretty! The primer potion in “sin” is really nice also, but I would only use on the lid as it is shimmery.

De-Slick in a Tube
What is it?
A face primer that helps prevent oil from breaking down your foundation and other makeup. Give you a matte finish to your skin, while priming the face for your foundation.
They Describe It As:
It’s time to take control of your oil and put your matte face forward. Our lightweight gel performs anywhere, anytime: dab it on all day for touch-ups without ruining your perfectly applied makeup. It’s completely color-neutral, so it works great on naked skin, under foundation, or over makeup. Formulated to help tighten pores for a youthful, shine-free finish.
Where to Buy:
Overall Opinion:
I really do like this primer- now granted, I don’t have super oily skin so I need to really test it out yet, but it works great for me! I like the feel of it- nice and silky without feeling heavy or oily. It does leave a nice matte finish and gives a great canvas on your skin to prep for your foundation. I do wish it was a bit cheaper, but it is still less than Smashbox’s Photofinish.

Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer
What is it?
A tinted moisturizer that protects the skin from sun damage while adding a smooth finish to your skin!
They Describe It As:
Hate fussing with heavy foundation, but need something that really performs? Seek protection with our Urban Defense. This formula is free of parabens and fragrance, is loaded with our multi-mineral complex, battles free radical damage, AND has SPF 20… watch out! Even better, its light-diffusing pigments diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, providing a youthful finish. Since it’s buildable, Urban Defense always has just the right amount of tint… wear it alone for light coverage (great for warm outdoor weather) or under powder for an extra polished look. Apply Urban Defense after your cleansing/toning ritual and you’re ready to face the day with moisture, sheer coverage and SPF 20 at your service.
Where to Buy:
Overall Opinion:
I’m not usually a fan of tinted moisturizers as I’m a “full coverage” kind of girl
But, I really do like this! It covers super well, feels nice on the skin, and isn’t as heavy as most foundations. I’ll most likely switch to this in the summer months when I want a lighter feeling on my skin. My only complaint is the price- I do wish it were a bit less, but at least it will last a long time!

Hi. I was wondering if you could help me out. I need some advice on what I should do. I have oily skin so during the day after I’ve had on my foundation for a while I start to look really oily on my t zone and on my chin so i’ll have to try out that de slick in a tube face primer but don’t I need to need to keep my skin hydrated with moisturizer. + I need something so that I won’t burn during the summer. So what do I do? I need to fix the oilyness, keep my skin healthy so I won’t break out, and something with SPF. I hope you can help.
I have this issue as well. I found that Neutrogena Healthy Defense daily moisturizer spf 45 works best for me …. took me a very long time to find as I am not only ghostly white i also have very sensitive skin. I put it on first thing after washing my face, then I wait 10 or so minutes for it to soak in and follow with Nars loose powder. I may need to powder again mid-day…but it is the best i found that works for me
Hey girl thanks for asking these question I have the same problem I brought almost every thing in the market and I dont know what to do with my skin it’s oil and dry in some areas by the end of the day when I wear makeup it’s oil and pumping in my niose please help me correct my face, and also how can I match eye shadow for a med/light conperation
Hi Christina! Clarins has a really awesome tinted moisturizer with SPF and is oil free. There are only a few shades to pick from but has great coverage! You should also check out Shiseido blotting sheets. They actually leave behind a translucent powder that will soak up any excess oil on your skin. They also have a matifying stick that is pretty nice. Neither of which will remove any makeup throughout your day. Hope this helps a little!
@ Christina – I have the same problem as you – I use Clinique’s tone correcting moisturizer (it has 15 or 20 spf) – and I ordered the “De-Slick Oil control Makeup Setting Spray from UD earlier this week. It’s also one of the new summer products, and it sounds like it might be just what you’re looking for too!
I’ll keep an eye out for the URBAN DEFENSE – but I’ve yet to find a TM that is light enough for my corpse like – err, I mean English Rose – skin.
@ Amanda,
I too am corpse like, heh. I use clinique spf 40 cityblock tinted moisturizer and its perfect…i use powder over the top for a more pulled together look or in winter i mix just a tiny bit of the very lightest foundation that I happen to be in love with at that moment..oddly L’oreal true match in w1 has done better for me than so many of the more posh lines…and i love that it’s spf 40…the price isn’t bad either
Thanks for the rec, I’ll check it out
Hey, I just had to tell you how much i love all your videos!..
I have a question, i have never used foundation and i believe i do not need full coverage i need more like a medium!.
What would you reccomend?.
I have tried tinted moisterizer but i hate that its gone a couple of hours later!
Thank you
I really wish that UD would release a palette of brand new colors but I know that would be asking a lot. My intro to the brand was the palette “Get Baked” – last summer’s palette. I still love that to this day and also the Ammo palette is wonderful. Love bourbon pencil – need a full sized one. I’m shocked that I still have my mini pencil from that Get Baked palette.
I just received my pallette yesterday and would love to see your tutorial on the UD Summer of Love – can you show a smokey look and a more suble one. I just love your work in your videos.
I got this palette @ the urban decay site and got it when they had their f&f sale of 30% off. I am so glad I didn’t pay full price! The amount of fallout that comes with these shadows is just ridiculous! I cant believe this is $30. I am glad I only paid $20. Even if you put your eye makeup on first and then your foundation, the glitter while shine through, and not only that it will move around on your face. The worst part is that at the end of the day there is glitter all down your face, it looked like I WAS CRYING GLITTER!
it is good.

Yea!! I am so excited to try deslick, finding a mattifier that actually works and leaves a smooth primed foundation for your…ummm foundation or TM is excellent! I love UD so I guess I never expected anything less.
Marlena,
Have you ever tried Hard Candy. So far I have only tried the conceler palette and I love it. You can get it at Walmart and is about the same price as most drugstore makeup. I would like your oppinion on it.
Hi,
I’d love if you would do a review of GOSH cosmetics and brushes, I heard they’ve become available in the US. tHANK YOU
Great palette.

It was a pleasure finding this, thanks for meeting my needs here.
Hey Marlena,
I am a little confused by tinted moisturizer… Do you use it as a moisturizer, as you would any other moisturizer or would you use it like any normal foundation? Or both?
Thanks so much! You’re soooo fab! I hope your move to California was easy! Great to have you be a California again!
Hello Marlena,
I am new to MUG, and I have been watching your videos/tutorials. I really love them and have been learning so much. I think you are awesome! I am glad I read the review for the De-Slick because I have been wanting to try it.
Thanks,
Kate
Marlena, I love your blog and videos! I especially liked this post because I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay. Since I’m still in college, I don’t have a lot of spending money that I can use on trying out their new products so I’m glad that you have this review so I know what products are worth buying. I look forward to seeing more Urban Decay reviews. I would also appreciate it if you could also feature some more drugstore brands that are more affordable for college students. Thanks again!
