The color payoff is great, and the colors are gorgeous! Humid and Shimmermoss are from the regular line, so no need to get in this collection unless you love the packaging.

My favorite: Splashing – is the perfect girly pink color!
All 3 lipglosses are pretty- nothing too extraordinary, but are nice to get if you don’t have similar colors…
Blushes: $18.50
My favorites: both of them!
Hipness is a great peachy pink color that is a matte finish, which I love! Get Away Bronze is a great bronzer for fair skin tones as it’s not too dark or too orange looking.
Highlight Powder: $26.00
This is a really pretty coral color when applied, but is very shimmery. If you like shimmery cheeks, then this would be great, otherwise you can pass…
Eye Khol: $14.50
My Favorite: Float On By – is a beautiful bright teal color!
These are very creamy and easy to apply. I love the teal color as it’s more unique than most eyeliners I’ve seen.
Lip Pencil: $13.00
These are both beautiful colors, but depends on what you like to wear. Life’s a Breeze is a pretty light pink color and Temperature Rising is an intense coral color.

Thanks for the review, but obviously you didn’t really test out products much. If you did, you would have known that marine life is actually Not that shimmery! the gold spray disappears after a couple of uses.
Don’t turn this into a you tube drama fest, mistakes can be made. No need to be snotty about it.

Marlena, no disrespect but you should have researched this collection before you made a video about it. You kept going on about Marine Life being shimmery, when it isn’t. The only thing shimmery about it is the overspray. Once that is gone, it is just like a regular matte blush. I’m surprised that you didn’t notice that the gold was an overspray.
ok i may be a lil late, and forgive me for being a MAC rookie, but whats the purpose of putting an “overspray” on a product if its not going to be part of the entire product?? See, the problem that I have with the response to Marlenas review is that if I had bought that product because I tested it and liked the shimmer, I would have been upset that the “overspray” was deceitful and matte after a few uses. So you MAC aficionados should be a little nicer when defending a product that is not what it appears to be.

What is the reasoning that MAC uses older colors i.e. Humid and “introduces” them in new product lines?
Its a marketing technique. They are simply pulling a color from the perm line and giving it a spot in the collection because they feel the color and texture fits the missing piece to the collection

You should test out the product better before doing a review. Marine life is NOT shimmery, just the over spray, couple uses, it’s all gone.

The thing is, obviously Marlena DOESN’T know what she’s talking about in regards to this specific collection, as anyone who follows MAC would know.
While I have always enjoyed her tutorials, her clear lack of knowledge now makes me question her other videos. I know I will take any “reviews” she does with a grain of salt from now on; there was just way too much misinformation in this video. Because yeah, Marine Life wasn’t the only thing she gave incorrect info on. I’d rather have informed opinions, and now I know MUG apparently isn’t the place to get that.

I love Marlena’s tutorials, and yes, I too, find her amazing. But that doesn’t mean I come here just to fawn over her because she’s known on YouTube among people into makeup. Pointing out that she’s dead wrong and giving out INCORRECT info in her video is not a “ridiculous” comment. Marlena is a trusted YouTube “guru,” and her fans trust that her info is true and should be aware of it when her information is not accurate.
This is Marlena’s website, not a fan page or a shrine. We don’t all come here to tell her she’s awesome and fabulous even when she’s wrong, and none of her readers should be expected to do so. This is the Internet; if you are wrong, someone is going to call you on it, especially if you are supposedly “an expert.”
There is no reason for her fans to be so offended by people pointing out Marlena’s mistakes. She’s human, and we all make them. I would hope that she would correct the wrong information now that she has been made aware of it. But like I said before, now I know that MUG “reviews” are not informed or researched. I read about products before buying them so I can make an informed decision on whether it’s something I want to buy. I can’t do that if the person reviewing the product doesn’t actually know anything about it. I would like to think of this site as a resource, and I would hope that Marlena would want to make it one and not just a place where her groupies can tell her how amazing she is.
Just because her review of this collection isn’t 100% accurate, it doesn’t make me like Marlena any less. I think it’s very fair to point out mistakes. I agree that the Marine Life powder isn’t shimmery, it’s just the overspray that is. And also, Hipness blush isn’t matte, it’s actually a frost finish. And it’s a repromote from Fafi, not Hello Kitty (just to let you know, Marlena!). Nobody’s perfect, but hey. Still a nice review.
Amocha2 I so agree! I’m so sick of hearing about the overspray Jen and Neena need to calm down and move on. If this is the biggest issue they have they need to feel blessed and quit complaining and go back to You Tube.

I was concerned about the shimmer in the highlighter too. But the heavy shimmer is only on the top. It doesn’t have that much shimmer underneath. When I first saw it it was a new container and super shimmery, but I saw one that was heavily used as a tester and it was not shimmery at all.
its intense bright though, like sunburn bright. Hipness blush much more wearable and BeneFit Coralista does so much more for the face, I sadly returned the Marine Life Powder
Marlena is in for doing makeup, NOT collecting. Marine Life, YES the shimmer goes away, but the color is still not unique enough to give into the over hyped advertisement of this. The are many more blushes out there AND highlighters that do so much more for the skin and face. Why spend $26 for this? Because MAC has a majority of you “collectors” trained. Marlena was simply sharing what she purchased, if its not useful to you, then quit visiting her site and spreading negativity.
The shimmer goes away within a few uses, so that’s definitely info “non-collectors” who are buying this to use should have. Based on another blogger’s well-researched comparison of Marine Life to numerous other products, the color itself is fairly unique. Having said that, I do think the hype for this product has been out of control. Considering the pigmentation of this, I also wouldn’t consider it much of a “highlighter;” it’s really a very expensive blush. While there are apparently no dupes for it, honestly, the average makeup user probably really doesn’t care.
again, what is the purpose of putting an overspray on a cosmetic product? I’d be so mad if i bought it and then it morphed with use into something different then what it started? I have to say that this debate is funny and when all the MAC gustapos get crazy it only makes me want to buy it less and less. thanx for the hype.

I agree as well! You are a makeup artist. There is a different in a MAKEUP ARTIST and a youtube GURU!! There are a lot of awesome reviewers out there who dont know how to do makeup, so if you want a review, go watch them! Marlena is just sharing with us what she got, she is not a MAC collector.

I didn’t intend to be rude — although some of her more rabid fans who told other posters to get lost could be considered so. If Marlena had a problem with my comments or the other people who posted about it, she has our e-mail addresses and could have said something or rejected the comments.
But honestly, I still don’t see how pointing out that Marlena was giving out incorrect information can be considered rude, especially when this site is her job.
I saw she mentioned in another posting that MUG is what she does for a living, so I don’t think it’s too much to expect a professional who is reviewing a product to do a little bit of research/testing before posting said review. I would not have mentioned it if this video said “first impressions” or something like that. But maybe I am just being too hard on Marlena; she probably isn’t as up-to-date and familiar with MAC as people who do nothing but review products and post information about upcoming collections.
I don’t have a makeup site because 1.) I write and edit all day for a living and 2.) I have to get permission from my employer before writing for another site, even if it was mine.
But I do get all my info from a major makeup message board (as well as a prominent blogger), which is how I am informed about the products … and where it was known months ago that Marine Life was an overspray.

I was kinda suprised with review, I really like marine life, and luster drops were really nice. Wasn’t too sure on new blush Hipness… I know its a matte blush, but color reminds me of Nars orgasm. It this blush a “need to get”? I have several mac blushes and not sure if i need this one… Thoughts anyone??? what about “get a way” bronzer…. I this worth getting if you already have several bronzers??

I went to their website and I saw a highlight bottle and I thought that was pretty interesting. The reviews for the NYX brand on youtube are really good, but I trust you more.
